Cowboys vs 49ers: 3 Second Half Adjustments Dallas Must Make

The Cowboys are looking like the Dallas team we saw last season. The 49ers are driving the field in a methodical fashion that’s breaking the Cowboys defense down.

They have converted a number of third downs, and the Cowboys defense is having major issues stopping San Fran’s offensive attack.

If Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan can’t make adjustments, then Dallas is in danger of falling to 0-2.

There are issues stopping the run, the pass and the 49ers offensive attack in general.

Here are three second half adjustments Dallas must make.

Defensive Look

The Cowboys are being pushed around by the 49ers offensive line. The Niners are having to easy of a time converting on third down, and Dallas must stop that.

If the Cowboys can’t stop San Fran on third down, then I don’t think that they can win this ballgame.

The varied shifts, looks and movements up front have done nothing to confuse Alex Smith or Frank Gore, and the Niners are marching up and down the field.

Jason Garrett’s Playcalling

Garrett should probably try the run a little more. There were more than 14 passes in the first half and only five runs.

Garrett needs to add versatility to his gameplan if the Cowboys want to win. Felix Jones needs more attention in this game, and Garrett is giving it to him.

Because the Cowboys defense is having issues against the Niners, the offense will have to pick up their pace.

Cowboys Secondary

They are getting chewed up. Mike Jenkins is nicked up, and with Terance Newman out, Alan Ball needs to step up. Alex Smith doesn’t have a ton of passing yards, but he’s been efficient and he’s marching his team up and down the field.

While defensive adjustments are needed, the Cowboys secondary will have to step their play up as well.

Jenkins knows the knock on him, as well as Alan Ball. If these two guys fail to step their game up, then they will face the ire of pundits and fans following this game against the Niners.
