Chiefs vs. Lions: 3 Adjustments the Chiefs Must Make for the Second Half

Farzin VousoughianSep 18, 2011

The Kansas City Chiefs are currently trailing the Detroit Lions, 20-3. With Jamaal Charles out of the game, the Chiefs are not doing well and have done the Lions a lot of favors in today's game.

For anyone who watched the first half are aware that this game is more about the Chiefs woes than the Lions ability to play well.

Here are three things the Chiefs must work on.

Stop Committing Immature Penalties

1 of 3

The Chiefs have been penalized six times. Cornerbacks Brandon Carr and Brandon Flowers need to be thankful that they were not ejected on the opening drive of the game for their unfortunate actions.

The Chiefs have given up a lot of yards off unnecessary penalties. If they keep this up, there will be no chance for the Chiefs to pull the game within reach in the second half.

Learn To Tackle

2 of 3

The biggest issue for Romeo Crennel’s defense has carried over from last week’s game against the Bills to this week. The Chiefs have missed many tackles and opportunities to sack Matt Stafford.

Tony Scheffler could have been taken down in front of the end zone on his touchdown play. However, Kendrick Lewis missed what could have been an easy tackle to save the touchdown and allowed Scheffler to walk into the end zone after a poor attempt to take him down.

Hold on to the Ball

3 of 3

Matt Cassel has thrown two interceptions, but they were tipped passes. Dwayne Bowe and Jerheme Urban had a hand on a ball intended for them.

Lions defensive backs Chris Houston and Amari Spievey came away with the picks off the tipped passes. The Lions managed to get a pair of field goals off those two takeaways.
