Jamaal Charles Injury: 5 Running Backs to Replace Him with on Your Waiver Wire

0 of 5

In case you haven't heard, Jamaal Charles was carted off early in the Kansas City Chiefs' game against the Detroit Lions on a kind of freak injury.

    According to the AP:

"Kansas City running back Jamaal Charles has been carted off the field midway through the first quarter Sunday with a left knee injury.

"...His return was announced as questionable, but the injury appeared significant. It appeared Charles might have hurt himself while planting the leg as he went out of bounds."

Hopefully for his sake—and that of his fantasy owners—he will be back and the injury is minor.

But just in case he is out for any length of time, here are some guys you should quickly snatch up off the waiver wire.

Most Ryan Grant owners are mad right now because at best their guy is going to be splitting carries. At worst, he is going to be the second back.

He very well could be available in your league unless you are in scavenger leagues like I am. (Stay away from leagues with people who follow sports for a living (cough—Bleacher Report—cough).)

If he is available, grab him. Huuuuge upside. Maybe.

4. Jonathan Stewart

Most folks stay away from Carolina Panthers backs altogether if they don't take a shot at DeAngelo Williams.

Well, I agree with the ESPN folks, who say that Jonathan Stewart is as good a fill in as anybody if you can't find a stop gap until Charles gets back.

Jonathan Stewart got the first series of the second quarter and on his first carry took a shotgun draw up the middle and turned nothing much into an 11-yard gain in which he carried three guys on his back. Then midway through the second quarter, he turned in the best running play the Carolina Panthers had all day, a cutback run in which he eluded just about every Cardinals defender on the field and gained 29 yards, only to see it called back on a holding penalty.

Until Williams shows he is the true No. 1, you can take a flyer on Stewart.

3. Mike Tolbert

This one might be harder to get—but he is a fullback, so he might have fallen through the cracks. I told everyone I knew who was crazy enough to draft Ryan Matthews to go ahead and handcuff Mr. Tolbert.

Some listened, and some are mumbling right now. Grab him if he is available.

2. Carnell Williams

    Yeah, I said it.

Pick him up, even though you will hear the "Cadillac, didn't he retire years ago?" jokes. Steven Jackson gets banged up a lot and because everyone thinks the 'Lac is washed up, you can get him for cheap.

    And finally...

I know he allegedly beats up his teammates. I know he is getting long in the tooth. But he is listed as the backup and he gets goal-line touches.

Run and grab him right now.

    What are you waiting for?
