College Football Rankings 2011 Week 4: Can Case McCoy Lead Texans Back to Top?

T.J. McaloonJun 7, 2018

Heading into the 2011 season, the Texas Longhorns were scrambling to find a competent quarterback. In the previous season Texas failed under the first year with Garrett Gilbert as their starting quarterback. There were a lot of questions about was it because of the lack there of a running game? Or was it because Garrett Gilbert isn't as good as Texas thought he was coming out of high school?

Either way, coming into the year there was Case McCoy ready to take over as the Texas back-up. There were some talks about how good the younger brother of former Texas quarterback Colt McCoy was.

Then the season started and the offense wasn't any better from last year under Garrett Gilbert. In Week 1 the team won, but struggled against Rice. In Week 2 the team was no better against BYU.

After half time, Texas' Coach Mack Brown made the switch. He called upon the younger McCoy to lead the Longhorns to help the Horns to a victory against BYU.

Last week against UCLA, McCoy made his first start ever for Texas and looked like he was just as good, if not better, than his older brother Colt.

Going 11 for 15 with two touchdowns and leading Texas to four touchdown drives made a lot of the critics of Texas take notice of how the offense now moves under Case.

He has the same elusiveness as Colt, he has the same accuracy as Colt, and he has the same winning personality as Colt.

Plus it helps that his favorite receiver is the younger brother of Colt's favorite wide out, Jaxon Shipley, younger brother of Jordan Shipley.

So, will Case McCoy lead this 2011 Texas Longhorns team to the top of the College Football world? No, not this year—the Oklahoma Sooners are just too good.

But next year and the following year, Case will take this team back to the Big 12 (or Pac-12) championship. Next year, with Jaxon and Malcolm Brown, the Texas Longhorns will be a team who will make a BCS Bowl Game and put pressure on the elite teams in football today.
