Calvin Johnson Injury: Why Lions WR Is a Must-Start in Fantasy Football Week 2

John HickeyJun 6, 2018

After a scare with an ankle injury, wide receiver Calvin Johnson has been pronounced as good to go for the Lions this week against Kansas City.

That’s nothing but good news for Johnson’s fantasy owners, who need to get him into the lineup against the Chiefs, no questions asked.

The man nicknamed "Megatron" and quarterback Matthew Stafford are a dangerous team any time, but going against a Kansas City defense that gave up 41 points last week and lost All-Pro safety Eric Berry to a season-ending injury (torn interior cruciate ligament) is an opportunity not to be missed.

This is the first regular season appearance for the Lions at what figures to be a sold-out Ford Field as Detroit seems ready to embrace one of the up and coming teams in the NFL. And the Stafford-to-Johnson connection has much to do with it.

Johnson is a veritable one-man highlight reel, and Stafford’s ability to get him the ball in the open field over the middle has made the Detroit passing game a thing to be admired, a prime example coming in Week 1 when Stafford gambled on 4th-and-3 and hit Johnson all alone for a 36-yard touchdown that defined the game.

That was one of two TD catches for Johnson, the other being a 1-yard acrobatic beauty that well could be repeated against the Chiefs’ puzzlingly porous defense.

It doesn’t hurt that Detroit’s use of the no-huddle offense means that the Lions are generally going to get off more offensive plays in a game than a standard offense would.
