NFL Picks Week 2: Which Teams Will Emerge as Worst 2-0 Squads?

Mike FosterSep 18, 2011

It's quite possible that the biggest mystery in the NFL right now is how in the world the Buffalo Bills were able to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs by 34 points at Arrowhead Stadium last weekend.

Buffalo won just four games last season and were decisively outscored 425 to 283.

Returning essentially the same cast and crew from last season, somehow, one of the NFL's most lonesome franchises dismantled an upstart Kansas City team that was seemingly going to walk in, walk on the opponent and walk out unscathed.

So, where does that leave us?

Are we jumping on the Bills bandwagon already? It seems likely that Buffalo could start 2-0 today, as they host the Oakland Raiders. Sure, the Raiders have made many strides in the past few years, and their opening win at Mile High, despite not being very exciting, was a statement game within their division. But Oakland is walking into a shootout without any guns.

Just about everyone in the Raiders organization made the injury report this week. Starting receivers Jacoby Ford, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Louis Murphy and tight end Kevin Boss are injured. As of this morning, Boss and Heyward-Bey are both inactive. Ford and Murphy are out. And big-time defender Richard Seymour is questionable.

Darren McFadden is even a little banged up, but he is slated to start.

This does not bode well for Oakland. The Bills are going to be just a tad more fired up than usual and could slip by a one-legged Raiders team to start off 2-0.

But will we really be able to take the Bills seriously?

Call me at the very end of the regular season season and I'll give my opinion on that.

As for others, the Cincinnati Bengals, who surprised us with a victory in Cleveland on opening day, are slated to face the ever underwhelming Denver Broncos. The quarterback controversy in Denver still looms, and it's more and more apparent that Knowshon Moreno and company make for an unreliable running game. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm a sucker for a team that can control the football, and I don't think the Broncos are anywhere near content with their offensive game plan with their quarterback and "running game" under fire. Cedric Benson and the Bengals will lead to victory.

Also, it's a no-brainer that we are going to get a questionable 2-0 team out of the matchup between Arizona and Washington. The Redskins are obviously in major trouble on offense, and the Cardinals defense surrendered a fantasy field day to a rookie quarterback who was projected to stink in his first career start.

Here are my game picks for today:

Bills over Raiders

Lions over Chiefs

Cardinals over Redskins

Cowboys over 49ers

Bengals over Broncos
