While everyone wants this epic Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight to happen, there's a good chance it won't, and that is bad news for Floyd.
It's clear that these two fighters are the best in the sport, and not having the two elite men face each other in a an epic bout makes boxing look bad. Could you imagine Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson never facing each other in a golf match? Neither can I.
Imagine how much interest there would be in a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight. No matter how good or bad the fight would turn out to be, the level of anticipation and interest surrounding the fight would be immense and would greatly help grow the sport and bring in new fans.
Drug testing has been a major hurdle in the possibility of having a Pacquiao-Mayweather bout, and it's time both of them put their little demands to the side and just fight.
Mayweather's perfect 42-0 record is an amazing one, but despite his brilliant won-loss record, the first thing people will say about his career is that he never faced Manny Pacquiao. How could you be proud of an undefeated record when you don't fight the best possible opponent?
Floyd Mayweather needs a Manny Pacquiao fight not just to prove he's the best ever, but to prove he can beat a better opponent.
After his classless knockout of Ortiz Saturday night, Mayweather needs a matchup and win over Pacquiao more than he ever has in his career.
