NFL Predictions Week 2: Which Pass Rushers Will Rack Up Sacks?

Jon DoveSep 18, 2011

Kamerion Wimbley, Lamar Woodley, and Ray Edwards will record multiple sacks.  Quarterback sacks are one of the more exciting plays in football, that is if your favorite team is on defense.  The league continues to put emphasis on creating pressure, with defensive coordinators becoming more creative.  The above pass rushers will take advantage of good matchups and record multiple sacks.

The Oakland Raiders are taking on the Buffalo Bills, a team with a poor offensive line. Buffalo has concerns at both tackle positions.  These issues leave an opening for Kamerion Wimbley, likely the best little known pass rusher in the NFL.  Wimbley has excellent quickness, with the ability to bend around the edge and get after the quarterback.  Oakland will identify this mismatch and allow Wimbley to attack.

Opening the season allowing 35 points was not what the Steelers had in mind.  However, the Ravens were able to move the football and protect Joe Flacco.  Pittsburgh's defense only registered one sack, a very disappointing stat.  Today, the Seattle Seahawks will feel the wrath of this Pittsburgh Steelers defense.  With James Harrison a little banged up, expect Lamar Woodley to bring the majority of pressure.  Seattle's rookie offensive tackle, James Carpenter, will be the likely target of the Steelers' defense.

The Eagles have a ton of talent, but the preseason showed a major weakness.  The right side of the offensive line is an area of concern, with former guard Todd Herremans starting at right tackle.  Atlanta didn't do much right last week, but were able to create pressure. Look for Ray Edwards to exploit this mismatch, by attacking Herremans.

Expect to see several other players creating pressure.  The usual suspects Julius Peppers, Jared Allen, DeMarcus Ware and Mario Williams should bring the heat.  However, the guys above are likely to have the best performances.
