NFL Predictions Week 2: Which QBs Will Fail Miserably?

Jon DoveSep 18, 2011

Week 1 saw some good quarterback performances, but also some terrible quarterback play. To find the poor quarterback play, just refer to the team records.  There is a good chance if a team suffered a loss, the quarterback had a poor performance.  This week several quarterbacks will struggle, resulting in a loss for their team.

One of the biggest reason for quarterback struggles is pressure.  Matt Cassel will face a ton of pressure, as the Chiefs take on the Detroit Lions.  Detroit has a questionable secondary, but its masked by the tremendous pass rush.  Cassel will have a rough game, as the Chiefs start the season 0-2.

Tavaris Jackson is in a tough position, as his questionable offensive line tries to hold off the Pittsburgh pass rush.  Jackson is going to face a ton of pressure, likely making several mistakes.  He could easily throw multiple interceptions.  I expect the Steelers to jump out to an early lead, forcing the Seahawks to play catchup.  The more passing attempts for Jackson, the worse he will perform.

Jacksonville had a good opening day victory, led by defense and a good rushing attack.  Luke McCown is going to need to make plays, but not this week against the Jets.  McCown was efficient last week, but expect him to be forced into mistakes.  The Jets will bring the pressure, forcing mistakes, and allowing the secondary to produce turnovers.

Cam Newton's Week 1 performance was excellent, but also troublesome.  Newton showed that he is capable of making plays with his arm, while avoiding mistakes.  However, the bar has risen 10 fold, with expectations through the roof.  Newton will make his share of mistakes, but with less understanding due to his Week 1 performance.  Green Bay will make the young quarterback make quick decisions, likely resulting in several mistakes.
