NFL Predictions Week 2: 3 Favorites Worth Adding to Your Parlay

Wes ODonnellSep 18, 2011

There are few locks in this week's NFL schedule.

A number of teams surprised us in Week 1 and naturally it has affected the lines for this week's games.

Two teams are favored by double-digit points. Two teams are favored by nine points. And three more teams are favored by at least six points.

All in all, there are seven "heavy" favorites in the lineup today worth keeping an eye on.

Nothing is truly guaranteed, but certain trends and tips seem to indicate that some of these games have more than enough credibility to add in your Sunday parlay.

Here are five favorites that merit a play today.

Bills -4 vs. Raiders

Oakland has to travel across the country on a short week and play an early game in Buffalo.

The Raiders will be all out of sorts and they already have consistency issues as is.

Buffalo's biggest issue will be stopping the run, but they have very little to worry about should the Raiders try and put the ball in the air.

They also have an offense that appears to be moving the football. Oakland's secondary is a weakness that Ryan Fitzpatrick will look to exploit.

And just for statistics' sake, the Raiders are 1-6 against the spread following a win against a division opponent.

Steelers -14 vs. Seahawks

Laying 14 points is obviously scary, but the Steelers are that angry. Their opening week loss to Baltimore was embarrassing for everyone involved, and Seattle's visit from out west couldn't come at a better time.

The Seahawks are 3-15 against the spread on the road in their last 18 attempts. It is also not a normal road game. They are traveling east and playing in an early game. Seattle is also 0-3 as an underdog of 10-plus points in their last three attempts.

We could see the Steelers' defense outscore the Seahawks' offense if things get as ugly as expected.

Fourteen points is a lot, but it still isn't enough for Seattle to cover.

Jets -9 vs. Jaguars

The Jets are hardly a safe bet to cover a near double-digit spread, but the Jaguars' offense is in trouble versus Rex Ryan.

Gang Green was outplayed by the Cowboys for most of the opening game, but they still found a way to win.

Rex's defense and blitzing schemes will overwhelm Jaguars quarterback Luke McCown and there are no weapons at his disposal that can beat the Jets' cornerbacks on the outside.

Don't expect to see the Jets to throw the football another 44 times this week. They should control the game from the opening kickoff.
