Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: Floyd's Cowardice Proves Superfight Will Never Happen
After one of the worst endings to a championship fight in years, the only thing accomplished Saturday night was that Floyd Mayweather would never fight Manny Pacquiao.
Victor Ortiz was not winning on the cards, but the young fighter was starting to rattle the veteran before he made a stupid move by heading Mayweather.
Ortiz instantly regretted his misstep and apologized to Mayweather, who promptly snuck Ortiz with two quick punches that sent the former WBC Welterweight champion to the mat.
"We touched gloves and we were back to fighting and then I threw the left and right hand after the break. In the ring, you have to protect yourself at all times. He did something dirty when it was his corner who said I was dirty, but I won the fight.
"
Let’s be honest for a minute; Mayweather snuck Ortiz because he knew that there was a good chance that Ortiz was going to win that fight. There was no question that Mayweather was winning on the cards, but Ortiz has staggered the undefeated Mayweather a few times and money was scared.
Floyd wanted to use this matchup to gauge his speed and power for a potential matchup against Manny Pacquiao, but what Mayweather learned wasn’t what he wanted to hear.
Southpaw Ortiz is similar to Pacquiao in the power, but Manny has way more speed than Ortiz and Mayweather. Mayweather will not risk his undefeated record on a fight that he knows he can’t win.
There is no doubt that this fight will never happen now, and it’s because Floyd Mayweather just isn’t that great anymore.
