3 NFL Teams in the Running for Andrew Luck

Ryan AlfieriJun 7, 2018

This year is the most interesting year in a while for the bottom-dwellers of the NFL, as this year's worst team will end up with the rights to the most highly-touted prospect since Peyton Manning

Judging from what we have seen so far, who is "winning" the battle for the rights to Andrew Luck's services?

One of the most obvious candidates to emerge has been the Indianapolis Colts, who put up a dismal showing against their division rivals last week. The problem was not just the quarterback—they were atrocious on defense and let up a score on special teams.

Even if Peyton was playing in that game, I doubt they would have won. This team is going to have to drastically change its identity to a more balanced team in a matter of days (they are even carrying a fullback for the first time in years), which is only a recipe for disaster. Until further notice, the Colts may be lucky enough to get one of the two top quarterback prospects ever.

While this team may not actually select Andrew Luck should they get the opportunity, the Carolina Panthers are certainly a candidate to repeat their 2010 draft position.

While Cam Newton was certainly impressive, the loss of Jon Beason may prove to be devastating for a team that really struggled last week. Outside of Charles Johnson, this defensive line is getting pushed around in the running game. If you get over 400 yards of passing out of your rookie quarterback and still lose, that does not bode well for your chances this season.

Here is a surprising candidate for you—the Minnesota Vikings.

While they were in their game against San Diego if you look at the scoreboard, San Diego really dominated the game. If Leslie Frazier does not move onto the Christian Ponder era soon, this team is really going to struggle. Their offensive line is among the worst in the league, and they are really getting up in age on defense. If Adrian Peterson goes down, which is certainly possible with his vicious running style, this team is in serious trouble.
