NFL Predictions Week 2: Which RBs Will Dominate on Sunday?

Jon DoveSep 18, 2011

Week 2 of the NFL season kicks off today with several great matchups.  Last week, we saw some big-time performances by several running backs.  Some of the top performers include Darren McFadden, Cedric Benson and LeSean McCoy.  Ben Tate took advantage of an injury to Arian Foster by rushing for 116 yards.

This week, we can expect to see more production from top-level running backs.  Darren McFadden and the Oakland Raiders are taking on the Buffalo Bills.  The Bills are still in the process of rebuilding their defense and are likely to surrender some rushing yardage.  Oakland is committed to running the football, only throwing 22 passes last week.  There has been talk that Hue Jackson would like to run the ball more and more.  Expect McFadden to have a big day, rushing for over 100 yards.

Peyton Hillis has the best matchup of any running back: He has the opportunity of rushing against a Colts defense that surrendered 167 yards on the ground.  Hillis will be looking to improve on his 57-yard game against the Bengals.  Indianapolis will likely put a lot of attention on stopping the run.  However, I expect Hillis to have over 20 carries and 100-plus yards.

The Steelers are licking their wounds after an ugly loss against the Ravens.  However, this week they take on the Seattle Seahawks.  Seattle's defense is a work in progress, giving Pittsburgh the opportunity to get back on track.  Expect to see the Steelers feeding Rashard Mendenhall as they look to get back to a power running game.

The Bengals comeback win versus the Browns was a big surprise.  Their victory was possible because of the running by Cedric Benson.  He had 121 yards on 21 carries, and it appears he will be a focal point of the offense.  Benson has another opportunity to put up big numbers as the Bengals visit the Denver Broncos.  Denver gave up early 200 yards rushing against the Raiders.

Tampa Bay suffered a disappointing opening-day loss.  They appeared to be out of sync, unable to feature a balanced attack.  Quarterback Josh Freeman was the leading rusher, with 26 yards.  LeGarrette Blount wasn't happy with his lack of carries, and rightfully so.  I expect the Bucs to get back to basics and feed Blount the ball.  He might not have a great yards per carry, but expect him to get at least 25 carries.
