Troubled Golfer John Daly Shoots a Stunning 62 in Hong Kong!

American golfer John Daly shook off years of poor play and off-course controversy with an incredible round of 62 at the UBS Hong Kong Open on Sunday, raising his hopes to rescue his currently fading career.

The 42-year-old, two-time major winner, took eight birdies with no bogeys to finish just one shot off of the par-70 course record and ended the tournament on nine under par.

John Daly, whose problems include drink, injury, weight, divorces, and a night in jail, was hoping not to fall any lower than his desperate position in the world rankings.

He is currently 788th in the rankings.

Despite going to eight under par for the first time since 2004, Daly put any celebrations on hold and he was flying to Melbourne later on Sunday for next week's Australian Masters.

He then plans to head to the Australian PGA Championship.  It's the scene of an infamous meltdown for Daly as in 2002, he threw his putter and ball in a lake and stormed off the course, leaving officials confused and angry.

Daly unfortunately relies on invitations after losing his US PGA Tour card and is hoping three consecutive European Tour tournaments will help his career.

He was disqualified from the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March for missing his Pro-Am tee-off time, a day after splitting from celebrated swing coach Butch Harmon, who accused him of preferring drinking to golf.

Last year, Daly turned up at a tournament in Memphis with scratches on his face and said his wife had attacked him with a steak knife.  His wife, Sherrie Daly, later said the wounds were self-inflicted to cover up a sexual assault.

Well let’s all hope that Daly can pull himself around and start performing again.
