Mayweather vs. Ortiz Live Stream: Fight Info, Network Information and More

Ryan RudnanskySep 17, 2011

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Victor Ortiz go head-to-head in the most anticipated bout of the year on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and there's bound to be some fireworks.

Mayweather, at 41-0, has yet to lose a fight and is considered one of the greatest boxers of his generation.

Ortiz, at 29-2-2, is one of boxing's up-and-comers, and his southpaw stance could give Mayweather some problems.

Ortiz does have a shot against Mayweather, but the general consensus is that he's out of Mayweather's league. Then again, who isn't beyond Manny Pacquiao?

Of course, there have been some rumblings that Mayweather has chosen to go up against Ortiz to be better prepared for a southpaw like Pacquiao down the line. However, these rumblings come and go and have yet to be fully realized. Maybe they never will.

Where: MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nev.

When: Saturday, Sept. 17 after 11:30 p.m. EDT

Watch: HBO PPV (USA), Primetime (UK), Televisa (Mexico)

What Does Ortiz Have to Do to Win?

The fact that Ortiz has a chance against Mayweather when many don't even get that honor is a testament to his ability and power. He's 29-2-2 for a reason, because he's a really good fighter, and he's coming off a dominant performance against the previously undefeated Andre Berto in April.

He needs to use his stance to confuse Mayweather, and his power to knock Mayweather on his heels. Easier said than done obviously. Trying to land a power punch on Mayweather is like trying to hit a mirage. He does have the power to knock Mayweather out if he finds a seam in Mayweather's defense.

What Will This Fight Do for Boxing?

The big fight, as we all know, would be Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, but there's no word on if that will become a reality.

In the meantime, however, we have something to whet our appetites in an intriguing matchup and a potential training ground for Mayweather vs. Pacquiao down the line. If Mayweather really does want to fight Pacquiao, this is the right fight for him.

Boxing is still obviously hurting, in terms of ratings and the overall quality of the fights, but this is a fight that at least will give us something, an up-and-comer vs. a master of his craft. It should be a good show, and a good test for Ortiz as he tries to work his way up the rankings.
