NFL Fantasy Football Projections Week 2: 3 Surprise WRs Guaranteed to Score Big

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

Projecting which players will have big weeks during any given week of an NFL season is a tricky task. That said, it's not impossible. Based on several factors, including matchups and playing time, here are three surprise wide receivers guaranteed to score big in Week 2.

Deion Branch – New England Patriots

The arrival of Chad Ochocinco was supposed to cut Branch's workload significantly heading into the season, but that just wasn't the case in Week 1. Branch, who is much more acclimated to the offense, caught seven passes for 93 yards while Ochocinco made just one grab.

The Patriots receive a visit from the San Diego Chargers in Week 2. It's a game that has the look of a shootout. Two high-powered offenses will be throwing the ball a lot is good news for all of the fantasy players involved, including Branch.

He is still be started in less than a quarter of ESPN leagues and is a free agent in 11 percent. He should approach 100 yards again and that kind of production always increases the chances of finding the end zone. Branch's forecast looks good for the rest of the season, as well.

Prediction: eight catches for 108 yards and a touchdown

Devery Henderson – New Orleans Saints

Marques Colston being out with an injury is good news for Henderson's fantasy value. He caught six passes for 100 yards and a touchdown against the Green Bay Packers, even without the benefit of his usual big play.

His targets will increase against the Chicago Bears. Although the Bears kept Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons passing game out of the end zone in Week 1, they did allow Ryan to complete 66 percent of his passes for more than 300 yards.

No matter how much the Saints preach about the running game during the week, they always revert to throwing the ball. No Colston or Lance Moore should mean double-digit targets for Henderson, making him a must-start fantasy option due to his game-breaking ability.

Prediction: seven catches for 110 yards

Jacoby Jones – Houston Texans

The Texans' passing game, led by quarterback Matt Schaub, was the only disappointment in Houston's Week 1 destruction of the Indianapolis Colts. Jones had three catches for 43 yards in the contest and also had a punt return touchdown.

You can't count on another special teams touchdown from him in Week 2 (although it's possible), but he should receive more targets than last week thanks to Kevin Walter's injury. Jones, like Henderson, has the potential to strike gold with a huge TD catch at any time.

Houston will be focused on righting the passing game against a Miami Dolphins defense that allowed Tom Brady to have a monster game on Monday Night Football. Jones is started in less than 10 percent of leagues, so take advantage of fellow owners' ineptitude and let Jones help you to Week 2 glory.

Prediction: five catches for 75 yards and a touchdown
