Floyd Mayweather vs Victor Ortiz: LIVE Coverage from MGM Grand Las Vegas
Alright fight fans, Happy Mexican Independence Day weekend! That can only mean one thing: We have one of the biggest fights of the year going on tonight with the biggest undefeated American superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Mayweather Jr. is stepping back into the ring after a 16-month layoff to fight WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz.
We are live here at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas where all the action is.
As of now champion Victor Ortiz is still a big under dog at 4 to 1 odds.
Mayweather is at -700.
The odds reflect that most feel it should go to a decision that is at -200.
Odds saying it will end by knock or stoppage are at +150.
If you were to bet on a draw with 40 to 1 odds, you would win big tonight. I personally had to take advantage of this.
So in short, the odds reflect that most experts/odds makers feel Mayweather will easily win a decision against the younger, inexperienced Ortiz tonight.
Friday at the weigh-in both Mayweather and Ortiz weighed in under the 147 lbs welterweight limit. Ortiz right on the dot at 147lbs and Floyd at 146.5.
Many fight fans were most shocked to see Floyd grab Victors neck during the faceoff. causing them to express they would never allow another man to grab their neck without paying for it.
Both Victor and Floyd looked very impressive and chiseled as true welterweight champions should look like on weigh in day.
Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya, although no longer a fighter anymore but a full-time promoter, just might steal the fighters' thunder a bit tonight.
De La Hoya has been rumored to be at both Staples Center for the Canelo vs. Gomez co-main event there. Word has it he will hop in a helicopter and also be ringside at Mayweather vs. Ortiz. Should he successfully pull off this stunt, he will indeed be getting a lot of props and, at the very least, recognition for doing such a James Bond-type of PR stunt as the neo-promoter that he is.
Wearing my media credential around town, I behold many local Vegas citizens expressing a lack of interest for Floyd. Floyd is often seen being loud and obnoxious while shopping and showing off his money to all the locals. They want Ortiz to upset Floyd, but they feel he is just too green and in way over his head.
Other superstar legends such as Sugar Ray Leonard and Chicago Bears icon Dick Butkus appear to have taken advantage of the big fight weekend of legions of fans coming into Vegas by holding book signings today at Caesars Palace.
I have been assigned a ringside media seat at the MGM Grand, so we will be not only updating this live blog of all the exciting fight action but also keeping you posted on all of the big-time A-list celebrities that only Floyd "Money" Mayweather could bring to the fight capital of the world.
