Floyd Mayweather: Pretty Boy Will Dominate Victor Ortiz in Overhyped Bout

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

Floyd Mayweather will have no problem dispatching Victor Ortiz in one of the most overhyped fights of the past decade.

Ortiz is a huge underdog according the the oddsmakers, but is being given more than a fighter's chance by the betting public, as confirmed by sports business guru Darren Rovell's tweet.

Mayweather walks into the MGM Grand undefeated and he'll walk out the same way.

It's been more than a year since “Money” defeated Shane Mosley to move his career record to 41-0. Many thought that Mayweather victory would lead to the fight the boxing world has been waiting for against Manny Pacquiao, but it never materialized.

Ortiz has never fought a boxer on the same level as Mayweather. His most impressive win came in April against Andre Berto. Even that big win came after a disappointing draw against Lamont Peterson on an undercard last December.

To think Ortiz can step up from Berto to Mayweather and not only make the bout competitive, but also win, is ludicrous. While Mayweather may have a little ring rust to shake off during the first round, he shouldn't have much trouble.

Just one of Mayweather's past six fights have been won by knockout, so the fight could very well go the distance. That said, it should still be a unanimous decision in favor of “Pretty Boy.”

The only chance Ortiz has is if he comes out fast and lands a haymaker. He doesn't have the all-around ability of the favorite, so he's going to need to take some chances. Unfortunately for him, Mayweather knows that and will capitalize on the counterattack.

Even though Mayweather should leave Las Vegas 42-0, the real winners of this fight are Leonard Ellerbe of Mayweather Promotions and Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions.

How those two men turned an otherwise slam-dunk bout into must-see television is amazing. Mayweather is a gigantic favorite, but judging by the social media buzz recently, you would think this is an even matchup.

Look for Ortiz to take one too many chances leading to a Mayweather win, either by knockout around the 10th round or easily by decision.

However, the happiest people in the arena will be the promoting teams.
