NFL Fantasy Football Week 2 Start 'Em Sit 'Em: Pine Time for These 3 Stars

Richard LangfordSep 18, 2011

Just because you spent a top draft pick or pretty penny on a player doesn't mean you have to start them every week. Even stars have their off games, and those off games are usually a direct result of their matchup. The following three typical every week starters may deserve a spot on your bench.

Tennessee Titans RB Chris Johnson

Chris Johnson got an extremely late start on this season, and it showed in the opener. Johnson had just nine carries for 24 yards, as the Titans lost to the Jaguars 16-14.

Now he has to try and rebound from that effort against an imposing Baltimore Ravens defense. The Ravens allowed just 66 yards on the ground to the Steelers. Granted, part of that was due to the fact that the Steelers couldn't run the ball because they were getting blown out, but is this game really going to be any different.

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson

I don't remember ever recommending sitting Adrian Peterson. But this offense is bad enough that it is time to consider it. Peterson had a solid day with 16 carries for 98 yards against the Chargers.

Now he is rolling into a tough matchup against a Tampa Bay defense that allowed just 3.6 yards a carry to the Lions in their opener. Until Donovan McNabb proves he can beat anyone with a pass, Peterson is going to be facing nothing but eight man boxes.

He isn't likely to be getting any runs near the goal line because the Vikings won't be getting there.

Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White

Roddy White is going to have a fine season with big stats. He is going to get plenty of chances to shine. However, he might not get too many chances to shine against the Eagles.

Teams are going to attack the Eagles' defense on the ground. And they certainly aren't going to make the receivers lined up against Nnamdi Asomugha and Asante Samuel the first place they look.

And that counts for the Falcons too. White was targeted 13 times in the Falcons opener. I'd expect that number to be cut in half for this game.
