Arsenal vs Blackburn Rovers: Gunners Sink Deeper into Hole

The Arsenal Gunners 2011/12 campaign took its latest and most damning blow. And that is saying a lot since this has already been a horrific campaign for the Gunners.

Arsenal limped out of the gates with one disappointment after another. They are now just 2-5-1 in the season, and have given their fans very little to cheer about.

However, they have offered them the smallest bit of hope recently. Arsenal beat Swansea 1-0 in a lackluster effort, but it was a win. They then put forth their best effort of the year in a 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund.

Those two performances were erasing the sting of an 8-2 embarrassment to Manchester United in the match just previous to the Swansea victory.

Any signs of hope are now firmly locked in the past. A 4-3 loss to the last-place team in the English Premiere League has guaranteed that.

Arsenal's back line is in shambles, and their confidence as a team is shattered. As well it should be after today's pitiful display.

The Gunners took a 2-1 lead into halftime, but apparently their defense decided to stay in the locker room for the second half.

They surrendered a goal to Alex Song in the 50th minute and then surrendered two more in the next 18 minutes.

And in that 18 minutes everything that has been wrong, and continues to be wrong, for the Gunners was on display.

This is a club that is prone to long bouts of shockingly horrific play. They can quickly be reduced to a comedy of errors and blunders. They are ill prepared for the stress these errors put on their defense.

And in the process they have proven they can lose to anyone at anytime. This is going to be a long campaign for the Gunners.
