USA vs. Canada: USA Ready to Flex Muscle in Friendly Match

Richard LangfordSep 17, 2011

The women's soccer team that takes to the pitch for two upcoming friendlies against Canada will be essentially identical to the one that lost the World Cup finals in a heartbreaking fashion.

That is not good news for Canada.

The US is 44-3-4 against Canada. That is a daunting run of dominance. They last played Canada early this year in the Four Nations Tournament, with the US winning 2-1.

Furthering the pregame hole for Canada is the fact that this game is going to be played in Kansas City, Kansas and that makes this a home match for the US.

The US is 44-0-5 as of their last 49 home matches.

Canada offers little in the way of snapping any of these streaks. Canada is coming off of a disappointing finish in the World Cup. They were expected to contend for a knockout stage birth, but fell miserably short.

This led to Canada bringing in new coach John Herdman. Herdman is trying to shape a team in his image. The roster is getting younger, and while there is definitely potential, this team has a ways to go before reaching it.

This young Canadian team will gain valuable experience by getting trounced by the US. And make no mistake about it, they are in for a long day.

The US women have not taken to the pitch since the World Cup, and with the Olympics less than a year away, this is an important tune up for the Americans.

Every match is valuable time for the US to fine tune their game for a run at defending their Olympic gold.
