Steven Jackson Injury: Rams Are Not Hopeless with Star Running Back out

Kyle VassaloJun 7, 2018

Even though it appears as though the Rams are going to be without star running back Steven Jackson on Monday night, they are still going to come away with a victory on the road.

Jackson tweaked his quad in their opener against the Eagles, and according to CBSSports.com, he remains questionable. Jackson is as tough as they come, but putting him at risk this early in the season is a recipe for disaster.

The Rams aren't lost at running back. Cadillac Williams had 19 carries for 91 yards against the Eagles and could see similar production this week. He's more than capable of carrying the load while Jackson gets back to full strength.

They are also taking on the Giants, who made Rex Grossman look like Joe Montana last week. The Giants are out of sorts, and the holes in their secondary are going to be exposed this week. Sam Bradford didn't have the Week 1 he was looking for, but Philadelphia's secondary isn't easy to dissect.

A heavy dose of Cadillac and Bradford taking on a bigger role will be more than enough to help the Rams achieve victory without Jackson in the backfield. Clearly it's a huge blow to their team, but they were prepared for such a scenario to arise.

Unlike the Rams of a few years ago, Jackson isn't everything to the Rams. He's a huge part of the offense, but he doesn't have to do it alone anymore.

The Rams are starting to become a complete team. They made a playoff push last season and no longer rely on Jackson to completely take over the game.

Look for the passing game to get going this week as the Rams see a much more favorable matchup. It's hard to see Bradford falling victim to a sophomore slump, and Jackson being absent from the backfield sets the stage for him to have a huge game on Monday Night.

The finger injury he sustained last week turned out to be minor, which is great news for the Rams going forward. While Jackson on the sidelines is a huge blow, they simply can't win without Bradford under center.

Monday Night Football features two teams who botched their openers. Even though the Rams are headed into battle plagued by injuries, the Giants are still in a far worse state.

The Giants seem unmotivated and appeared to be out of sorts against a Redskins team who was made to look outstanding. The Giants could be in for a rough year, one that might be Tom Coughlin's last in New York.

The Rams have the edge in this game, with or without Jackson.
