Justin Blackmon vs Alshon Jeffrey: Who is the Better Pro Prospect?

Joe PenkalaJun 4, 2018

When looking at the college landscape and wide receivers that will be moving on to the next level, both Justin Blackmon and Alshon Jeffery stand out as the top two potential prospects.

With South Carolina, Jeffery has been a weapon that really came into form last year. He has a huge frame, standing 6'4" and weighing in at 229 lbs. He has also shown the ability to run outstanding routes and can use his speed to get open deep.

West of South Carolina, Blackmon had a monster sophomore season for Oklahoma State, catching 111 passes and 20 touchdowns. Blackmon is a monster who reminds me a lot of Calvin Johnson, but the only thing that may hold him back is his height.

While Blackmon may not be the perfect height for a receiver, standing 6'1", he makes up for that with his ability to be physical and his pure playmaking ability.

Both players play in good conferences that have allowed them to play against top talent, so you cannot knock either player for playing against weak talent. Jeffery has seen the best in the SEC and Blackmon has gone up against the best in the Big 12.

No matter which receiver you side with, you will end up with a solid player that can step in and make an impact at the next level. While Blackmon may put up the better stats and wow people with the big numbers, Jeffery has the more NFL-ready body and height and could be a huge mismatch against any cornerback in the NFL.
