Manchester United vs. Stoke City: Complete Preview, Start Time and Schedule

Kyle VassaloJun 7, 2018

Manchester United looks to add another win to their undefeated English Premier League record, while Stoke City looks to keep their loss column unblemished against the most dangerous team in the entire EPL.

Clearly Manchester United are on fire and have proven to be the team to beat. With an impressive 15-goal differential, nobody wants to take on the Red Devils right now. This would stand as a signature win for Stoke City, adding to an already-impressive string of games including a win over Liverpool.

Biggest Storyline

Wayne Rooney has managed to score eight goals in four EPL games. He looks to continue that ridiculous pace and notch up yet another victory early in the season to continue the Red Devils' perfect start. Obviously the question is whether or not Stoke City can slow him down, not whether or not they can stop him entirely.

Key Player To Watch for Stoke City: Jonathan Walters

It was Walters who came up big in a penalty kick against Liverpool to give Stoke City the lead. Stoke City doesn't have a Rooney-type scorer to completely take over this match, so if they want to win this match they're going to need to see productivity from players like Walters.

Key Player To Watch for Manchester United: Dimitar Berbatov

It's borderline ridiculous that Dimitar Berbatov is taking on a limited role on Manchester United. It's not the wrong move, but he's an outstanding striker. He's just not nearly the best one on the team and it will be interesting to see how they handle the spoil of riches they have on hand.

Key Matchup: Wayne Rooney vs. Stoke City back line

The Stoke City back line has been solid. There have been a number of shots taken on them, but the scores aren't an indication of that. They obviously face a huge test in taking care of Rooney, who has been unstoppable this season. They can't get into a high-scoring battle with Rooney and Manchester United, as they are doomed to fail in that scenario.

What They're Saying

"Dimitar has been training terrific. His attitude is spot on. He will get his game time as the season wears on. There is no question about that."

It's going to be interesting to see when the season will "wear on." Just how deep into the season are we going to get before we see his game time pick up? We may not be many games in, but the quandary facing the Red Devils with their ridiculously talented strikers isn't going anywhere.

"

"I think Kenny will be as biased [to his team] as I am to Stoke. I respect his opinion and whether the decisions were (less than impartial) or not I don't know. We were pretty poor in possession of the ball today and we are better than that but we were top drawer off the ball. We stopped them playing, although I thought Suarez up front was fantastic.''

"

Suspect calls happen in this sport. Naturally, so does whining about officials. Kenny Dalglish cried foul after Liverpool was taken down by Stoke and Pulis didn't allow Dalglish to completely discredit his team's victory. He deters the negative comment about officials and turns it into a compliment about his team. Well done, Tony Pulis.

Final Score

Stoke City 1, Manchester United 3

Right now United is impossible to pick against. No team in the EPL is playing better and though Rooney's stellar pace is bound to slow down at some point, this match is unlikely to serve as that moment.
