WWE: 10 Reasons Randy Orton Will Always Rule SmackDown
Since the WWE draft brought Randy Orton to Smackdown, the show on Friday nights has belonged to The Apex Predator. We knew that whoever was drafted to Smackdown among the major names would own that brand as Edge’s replacement. Orton, however, has nearly a stranglehold on the blue show. Orton’s reign over the brand is more dominant than anything that Edge or any other man has had in the history of Smackdown.
Now that Orton has become the first person to truly reign supreme over Smackdown all alone, fans are wondering why he must be so much stronger than the rest and how long this will last. To those who are not fans of Orton’s supreme reign over the brand, here are 10 reasons to get used to it.
He’s The Golden Boy
1 of 10Since Orton’s debut in WWE, he has been destined to be among the greats of his generation. Orton has now grown to be brought up in discussion for all-time greats. Now an 11-time world champion, Orton has the WWE constantly fearing when The Viper strikes.
Lack of Solid Heels
2 of 10Smackdown may have gotten Orton from the draft, but they didn’t get much more major star power.
Among the heels on their roster now, only Mark Henry has come to the brand via the draft and made much of an impact. Despite acquiring Orton, they had to part ways with Alberto Del Rio, who was an emerging top heel that Smackdown helped to build. He is now on RAW as the WWE Champion and Smackdown has missed him ever since.
Lack of Secondary Faces
3 of 10For quite a while, the question was who is the second-best babyface on Smackdown behind Orton. The Money in the Bank briefcase has been given to Daniel Bryan, but there hasn’t been many favors given to him since. Sin Cara came to Smackdown as well, but has turned heel…or has he?
The emerging understudy in the face department is Sheamus, who wasn’t even a face two months ago. However, he has gotten a lot of respect from fans and gets some of the loudest cheers on the recent live episodes. Even still, Sheamus is already a two-time world champion, a former United States Champion and the current King of the Ring. With all that, he is not on the card for Night of Champions and nowhere in the world title picture. What does that tell you?
He Can't Lose
4 of 10No matter what you do, it is nearly impossible to beat Orton lately.
Cody Rhodes was able to pull it off on RAW, but there is always an exception to the rule. Orton has had two world title reigns since joining Smackdown. Had it not been for kicking Christian in the groin, that likely would have been one single reign.
Orton Is Smackdown’s Cena
5 of 10Let’s hear all of the anti-Cena fans. Randy Orton is teetering on SuperOrton territory. No matter what he does, he always pops up and can really do no wrong. He is constantly golden, is among the all-time greats in his 30s and is still booked like he is being pushed despite already being on top.
Let the Orton bashing commence.
RKO Is Lethal
6 of 10You can ask CM Punk about this. He gives his all in a match with him at WrestleMania, but eats one RKO and is finished.
We have seen some fantastic versions of Orton’s finishing move and we all love a good RKO, but it has been booked to be the ultimate move. Just look at the awesome match Randy had with Dolph Ziggler on RAW not too long ago. Had it not been for one of the more vicious RKOs you will ever see, that match might still be going.
Mark Henry Won't Be Champion
7 of 10He deserves it and has not lost on pay-per-view this year, but Mark Henry will not become a world champion this Sunday. He’s too old, not marketable and will likely be held down. I would love to see it happen, but I have to be realistic.
If Henry can’t get it done and he has been given all of the momentum in the world on Smackdown, can anyone take down Orton?
Orton Defies Money in the Bank Briefcase
8 of 10The big story from the Smackdown brand at Money in the Bank was Daniel Bryan being given the briefcase for a future world title match. Instead of trying to build Bryan and turn him into a serious world title contender, you barely get that feeling from it. If you wouldn’t know better, you would barely know that there is still a briefcase out there.
With Orton being unstoppable, can anyone buy Orton actually losing to the briefcase holder?
Greatest Fanbase on Brand
9 of 10Orton has always had a strong following since his days in Evolution. He has won over older fans who see him as more than a son of a wrestler. The younger fans are obviously attached to Orton, but he is also cheered by the wrestling critics. That is a rare combination in today’s WWE.
He Will Always Be in Main Event
10 of 10Can you imagine a main event on Smackdown without him? It really looks odd to not see it. Christian has been made into a crybaby. People are sending out a search party on Wade Barrett’s title chances. Sheamus is floating in wrestling purgatory at times. Mark Henry is booked strong until he hits the brink of gold. Randy Orton is the only consistent part of Smackdown. Get used to it, guys.
