NFL Picks Week 2: Which Teams Will Eek Out Unconvincing Wins?

John RozumJun 7, 2018

Although winning games is the ultimate goal, and winning basically solves everything, eking out unconvincing wins is how one becomes vulnerable to better teams, which ends up becoming disappointing by season's end.

It's not pretty, but, despite coaches wanting a better performance, a win is a win is a win.

So with that in mind, here are three teams who will pull off unconvincing wins in Week 2.

Cleveland Browns over Indianapolis Colts

2011 is supposed to be a year in which the Browns turn the corner and begin an uphill rise to hopefully becoming an AFC North contender one day.

Well, based on their Week 1 performance against in-state/division rival Cincinnati, they have a lot of ground to make up.

This week, they play a Colts team with Kerry Collins under center, as well as an array of injuries.

Although the Browns win, it's going to be close and filled with much more ups and downs than needed.

Yes, it's a good first step because it's a win, but they're still a few steps back after under-performing in Week 1.

Dallas Cowboys over San Francisco 49ers

After three quarters of play in Week 1, the Dallas Cowboys looked like a team that could run with anyone in the NFL.

Then the fourth quarter—and Tony Romo's lack of talent in the clutch—happened, allowing the Jets to literally steal one from Big D.

In Week 2, the Cowboys will defeat the 49ers at Candlestick Park. However, after winning in Week 1, San Fran is very confident coming in.

They know Dallas is vulnerable, and the Cowboys know that the Niners will play all four quarters.

When the clock runs out and the ball is dead, however, Romo and the Cowboys will pull off the road win. It won't be as convincing as the 49ers' hang, despite not being considered a contending NFC West team.

New York Giants over St. Louis Rams

It is certain that the Giants significantly disappointed in Week 1, much like their NFC East rival, the Cowboys.

The only difference is that Dallas at least lost to a solid AFC team in the Jets, whereas the Giants fell 28-14 to a Redskins team that's supposed to be one of the worst in pro football.

So, not only are the Giants worse than we thought, but Washington is better, and although New York fights off the scrappy St. Louis Rams at home on Monday, it's nothing to get stoked about.

Yes, the Rams are one of the better teams in the NFC West, as well as possessing a lot of potential, but the Giants also have a lot of talent; they're simply not reaching expectations.

It could also be because they're in New York City, and the fact that the Eagles are flying high, but how can Giants fans be so confident after a sloppy Week 1 performance combined with a sluggish Week 2 win against another inferior opponent?
