College Football Predictions Week 3: 3 Teams in Jeopardy of Dropping from Top 25

Eric BowmanJun 7, 2018

The 2011 college football season continues to get better every week, and there is little doubt that Week 3 will be as exciting as the first two.

There are 12 ranked teams hitting the road this week, which means multiple Top 25 teams are on upset alert. There will be a few upsets because that's just what college football is.

Here are three ranked teams in jeopardy of falling out of the rankings.

No. 21 Auburn

The Tigers have had two very close wins, but they've been at home. Now, the inexperienced players will be under an immense amount of pressure when they play at Clemson.

In the battle of Tigers, Auburn will be feeling the heat. In 2010, Clemson took Auburn into OT, but they were unable to put the ball in the end zone.

Both teams have new players in key positions, which is why this is a very intriguing game to watch. Clemson will give Auburn another scare, and although I think Gene Chizik squeaks out another win, if he loses they will no longer be in the Top 25.

Auburn 28, Clemson 24

No. 18 West Virginia

The Mountaineers haven't looked overly impressive in their first two wins, and now they have tough test at Maryland. They will no doubt be distracted at first by some ridiculous jerseys, but with the speed the Terps have, West Virginia will have their hands full.

Regarded as the top team in the Big East, the Mountaineers need to win this game to remain ranked. This should be a victory for quarterback Geno Smith and new head coach Dana Holgorsen, but you never know with it being an away game.

Maryland is coming off a bye, meaning they've had a lot of time to prepare for the Mountaineers attack. In the end, West Virginia will win, but it's not going to be pretty.

West Virginia 24, Maryland 17

No. 22 Arizona State

The Sun Devils leaped into the ranking after an overtime win over the Missouri Tigers in Week 2, and now they must take a lengthy road trip to battle Illinois.

The Fighting Illini have had two easy games, and now that they're facing a tough team, they're glad its a home game. Arizona will drop from the rankings if they lose this game, which is very likely to happen.

The Sun Devils defense will be the difference-maker, but I expect their offense to start slow. If Illinois can jump out in front early, then this game is theirs for the taking. In the end thought, the Sun Devils defense will be to much and Illinois will fail to win a comeback.

Arizona State 20, Illinois 14
