Floyd Mayweather: Boxing Fans Rooting for Pretty Boy Floyd Have Only One Purpose
Boxing fans are excited to see Floyd Mayweather, Jr. fight again, and if they do cheer for him, it's only because they want him to face off against Manny Pacquiao.
Mayweather Jr. takes his undefeated record into the ring this weekend against a much younger Victor Ortiz, who happens to be the WBC welterweight champion.
Fans of the sport have long awaited a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight because they know those two guys are the best of the best. However, it hasn't happened, and many are wondering if it ever will.
Both fighters are getting older and towards the back end of their careers, but, even though they're not as quick as they once were, boxing fans still wish to see them fight.
If Mayweather loses to Ortiz, it will be his first loss ever, and he can kiss any chance of facing Pacquiao goodbye.
These two have had opportunities to fight one another, but their egos have gotten in the way and nothing ever escalated past trash talk.
Mayweather has been running his mouth for years now, but fans have grown tired of it because he won't fight Pacquiao.
The 34-year-old boxer has his true fans that stay loyal to him, but even they want to see him fight Pacquiao, and that is the main reason they will be cheering him on this weekend against Ortiz.
Even those that despise Mayweather will wish him well against Ortiz because they know a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight would be one of the biggest fights ever.
There hasn't been a mega-fight in a while, which is is exactly why fans hope Mayweather wins.
But even if he does win, there's that chance he still backs out and doesn't fight Pacquiao.
With a lot on his plate leading up to this fight, Mayweather seems to embrace it. He tells reporters that he feels great and of course speaks very highly of himself, just like any other cocky person would do.
Per the Boston Herald:
"Nothing new here. There are certain obstacles that are put in front of you. But as long as I got a strong team, I just feel that no one can stop me. Things happen in life, but I’m 41-0, man. Can’t nobody beat me.
Boxing is easy for me. Life is much harder. They say I have trouble with southpaws. They say I have trouble with my hands. I say I’m 41-0, so how much trouble I got?
"
Mayweather hasn't fought since May of 2010, which makes this weekend's fight very exciting. That's a long hiatus from the ring for Mayweather, but he claims he isn't worried.
The fact that Ortiz is 10 years younger than Mayweather has people believing Ortiz will win easily, plus the fact that he's got a little more meat on him.
However, Mayweather still has the speed, and even though it's not like it once was, he can still bring the pain, which is why this fight is going to be very good.
Will Mayweather continue to run his mouth, or will Ortiz be able to shut him up?
That's the big question this weekend, and most boxing fans are rooting for Mayweather for one main reason: They want to see him fight Pacquiao.
Nobody knows if that will ever happen, but any boxing fan that says they don't want it is just lying. It's been anticipated for so long now, and everybody just wants it to happen.
