NFL Injury Report: Running Backs to Start/Sit Week 2

Alex WelchJun 7, 2018

There are plenty of fantasy owners out there who have some injury issues to deal with already.

We saw a few running backs go down early in Week 1, as well as some that weren't even active for the first regular season game.

Arian Foster has to be the biggest name on everyone's mind. The leading rusher from 2010 sent fantasy owners into a frenzy when he tweeted a picture of his MRI during preseason. After nursing his hamstring for a few weeks now, he may be ready to give it a go.

When you're setting your lineup this week, be sure you keep these injuries in mind.

Knowshon Moreno

The Denver Broncos did not look like a John Fox team in Week 1. Their new head coach was known for his love of the ground game in Carolina, but the Broncos only ran the ball 12 times in their first game against the Oakland Raiders.

To make things worse for fantasy owners, Knowshon Moreno suffered a hamstring injury in the first week. He was seen jogging on the sideline after he left the game, but he never returned.

The positive outlook at the beginning of the week now looks grim. Moreno didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday. They still haven't ruled him out of Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans. Don't get your hopes up, though.

It looks unlikely that Moreno will see any action. If you have Willis McGahee, you should probably considering put him in.

Steven Jackson

The St. Louis Rams had a terrible Sunday this past week. Several players left the game with injuries in their 31-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Steven Jackson strained his quad in the first quarter of Sunday's game. After scoring a 47-yard touchdown on the first Rams possession Jackson had his afternoon cut short.

Initial reports said Jackson was unlikely to play in Week 2. The latest report claims that he has an outside chance of getting in this week's game.

He hasn't practiced the past two days. He'll likely be a game-time decision, so don't get your hopes up. Cadillac Williams would be a good second option if you've got him.

Arian Foster

3 of 4

Here's the guy everyone is monitoring. Arian Foster broke out in 2010, which led to him being one of the top draft picks in fantasy leagues this year.

Foster scared owners during the preseason when he limped off the field in a game against the San Francisco 49ers. He wasn't able to play the first game of the regular season, but this week has brought hope.

Foster looked good in practice Thursday. Coach Gary Kubiak didn't come out an give the all clear, but he basically indicated Foster will be playing Sunday.

He's listed as probable for the first time this season. It looks safe to put him in your lineup at this point.

Daniel Thomas

Daniel Thomas was another disappointment in Week 1 due to his injury issues. Fantasy owners were excited to see what he could do, but he was unable to go with a bad hamstring.

This week looks like a safe bet, though, for Thomas to see his first bit of action in the NFL. He's been practicing and is now listed as probable.

Tony Sparano said he'd like to distribute the work 70-30 between Bush and Thomas respectively. Bush looked like a factor in the passing game for the Dolphins. The run game still looks up in the air.

Thomas could steal more playing time if he impresses this week. It may not be wise to start him quite yet, considering we've never seen him play a real NFL game.
