ESPN NFL Picks Week 2: Fading Unanimous Choices Against the Spread

Jeff GrantJun 7, 2018

The ESPN NFL experts have made their straight-up picks for the upcoming week, and once again, I'll be ready to fade these selections against the spread.

It's important to note that the esteemed panel is simply picking games straight-up, which is incredibly different than trying to beat the Las Vegas linesmaker.

The experts are made up of the following ESPN personalities: Eric Allen, Mike Golic, Merrill Hoge, Ron Jaworski, Chris Mortensen, Adam Shefter, Mark Schlereth and Seth Wickersham.

Let's take a look at nine teams chosen in unanimous fashion to come away victorious in Week 2.

Oakland at Buffalo (-3.5)

1 of 9

The ESPN NFL experts must think that no team has ever failed to win a game at home after tallying a 41-7 win as 3.5-point road underdogs.

Professional bettors have made a living off this situation alone.

Surprisingly enough, the betting market is pretty split on this contest, which may move the Bills to 13-4 ATS in Week 2.

Mixed emotions.

Kansas City at Detroit (-8.5)

2 of 9

The Detroit Lions are in a terrible spot in terms of scheduling.  It wouldn't surprise many professional handicappers if the team ended up losing this game in straight-up fashion.

Seventy percent of tickets are being written on the Lions in Vegas which is an alarming number, especially when their game ranks just behind an NFC battle between New Orleans and Chicago in terms of action.

Watch out.

Baltimore (-6.5) at Tennessee

3 of 9

The mere fact that bettors continue to pound the Ravens and the line hasn't moved signals that smart money is written all over the Tennessee Titans.

Not everyone has fallen in love with a team that took advantage of a plus-seven turnover differential in Week 1.

Chicago at New Orleans (-7)

4 of 9

This one surprises me a bit, even with the New Orleans Saints currently listed as touchdown favorites.

Casual bettors are actually betting the Chicago Bears on the moneyline in this contest due to their upset win over the Atlanta Falcons.

For some reason, the ESPN NFL experts are more impressed by the Saints' losing effort against the Super Bowl champion Packers on opening night.

I think they are right on this one.

Jacksonville at New York Jets (-9)

5 of 9

Very predictable, but a letdown following last week's win over Dallas is definitely possible, especially in terms of betting.

Teams that play at home the week after playing "America's Team" are just 29-46 ATS as favorites.

Nobody is giving the Jacksonville Jaguars a chance in this one, as nine out of every 10 moneyline wagers are coming in on the New York Jets.

Seattle at Pittsburgh (-14.5)

6 of 9

The Pittsburgh Steelers nation is backing its prideful team at the windows despite being the highest-priced favorite on the odds board.

It would be shocking to everyone, even me, if the Black and Gold lost another one.

Seattle is 6-2 ATS in the last eight series meetings.

Green Bay (-10) at Carolina

7 of 9

What a coincidence that the experts have chosen all three teams that are double-digit favorites in Las Vegas to come away with a victory in Week 2.

Crazy, isn't it?

Bettors may elect to walk up to the window and support the underdog being 4-1 ATS in this series.

San Diego at New England (-7)

8 of 9

I'm surprised by this one, but due to ESPN's proximity to Foxborough, I'm not that surprised.

Everyone loves New England quarterback Tom Brady, but some should start talking more about San Diego's Philip Rivers.

After all, the former NC State Wolfpack star is 10-5 ATS as a underdog in his career.

St. Louis at New York Giants (-6)

9 of 9

The NFL experts are obviously more impressed by the New York Giants losing by two touchdowns on the road to the Washington Redskins than the St. Louis Rams dropping a home game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Bettors are also electing to play the Giants due to injury problems littering the Rams roster, but quarterback Sam Bradford isn't one of those players that will miss the game.

Be careful.
