Barcelona News: Barca Won't Miss a Beat Without Midfielder Andres Iniesta

Matt FaulconerJun 7, 2018

Losing one of the best midfielders is going to be a blow to any team, even one that is as talented as Barcelona.

According to the official Barcelona website, Andres Iniesta is going to miss one month of action due to a torn hamstring. Here is the official report from the team:

"

The 38th minute of the game the midfielder, in an individual action, felt pain in his left leg and called to be substituted. Cesc Fàbregas came on in his place.

Andrés Iniesta was subjected to a series of medical tests and the verdict is a torn femoral biceps in his left leg, which will mean he misses about a month of football.

He therefore joins Alexis Sánchez and Gerard Piqué on Barça’s injury list.

However, they team certainly has the talent to cope with the injury.

The team recently added Cesc Fabregas to the fold, and they expect him to become a major player for this club. He now has the opportunity to do just that. With Iniesta out, he will be called upon to provide more playmaking out of the midfield than he would have had to if Iniesta was in the lineup.

This is his moment to shine. If Fabregas plays up to his potential, he could be on his way to a remarkable career with Barca.

Thiago Alcantara is the player who will be replacing Iniesta in the lineup directly. He is certainly not the player that Iniesta is, but he should be able to fill the void respectably. Thiago has moved up through the youth system at Barcelona and has played well when given the opportunity. At just 20 years of age, he is bound to make some mental mistakes, but this will be a valuable learning experience for Thiago.

On the defensive side of things, Carles Puyol and Gerard Piqué will be holding down the backline together very shortly after both had missed time due to injury.

Things will be all fine and dandy in Barcelona, so don't worry too much about Iniesta's injury.
