Fulham vs. Manchester City: Blowout Awaits Cottagers vs. City

Michael DixonSep 15, 2011

From the outside looking in, Sunday's match between Fulham and Manchester City would appear to be a mismatch, and a rather large one at that.

City is a perfect 4-0 through their early Premier League Schedule, while Fulham has managed only one draw. How is this one going to be close?

It's not.

Edin Drezko and Sergio Agüero have each recorded six goals in Premier League action. Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer will do well to keep this one close, because Manchester City's attack is going to be constant.

Meanwhile, the Fulham attack will need to get significantly better. They have scored only two goals in their first four Premier League games. They will need to get a better attack on Joe Hart.

In reality, this is just a terrible matchup for the Cottagers.

Yes, you always have to win it on the field. Nothing that anyone says makes a bit of difference until the match is underway.

But City's offense is just running extremely efficiently right now. They are not afraid to attack, and when they do, they score.

Fulham's best chances rely on them limiting City's attack, and then taking advantage of whatever opportunities they get.

That will mean that Clint Dempsey has shots created for him. When he gets them, he can't miss.

In reality, too much needs to happen in this one. Anything is possible, but there are too many things that need to go exactly right for the Cottagers to even be competitive in this one.

Schwarzer will certainly be the most important player. He can go a long way in negating a strong City attack.

But when you consider all things, even a great game from Schwarzer just won’t be good enough. The Cottagers haven’t proven that they can do anything against a team of City’s caliber.

This one will get ugly.

Prediction: Manchester City-4, Fulham-0
