Tottenham vs. Liverpool: Spurs Will Continue Run of Success vs. Liverpool

Michael DixonJun 7, 2018

On the surface, it would appear as though Liverpool should win Sunday's match against Tottenham. Sure, Tottenham won their last match while Liverpool lost to Stoke City.

Still, Liverpool's 1-0 loss to Stoke City was the only loss that they have suffered in the early Premier League season. Conversely, Tottenham's 2-0 win over the Wolverhampton Wanderers was their first EPL win this season.

While he may be frustrated with his club for being left of off the Europe League's squad, I like a returning Rafael Van Der Vaart to make an impact in this one.

While not by a great margin, the recent history between these two teams has titled towards Tottenham. They beat Liverpool 2-0 in May. While Liverpool will be out for a measure of revenge, look for Van Der Vaart and the home field advantage to push Tottenham over the top.

It's not that Liverpool is without weapons. Luis Suárez is a great player right now and at 24, he's only getting better. Suárez has two goals in the early Premier League season. I don't expect him to be contained in this one.

I do think that Tottenham's poor start doesn't quite reflect what we'll be seeing from them for the remainder of the season. They're not going to win the Premier League, but they aren't as bad as their record suggests.

The Spurs certainly aren't as bad as they showed in their 5-1 loss at the hands of Manchester City.

Looking for specifics in this one, I expect both teams to come out hard. Even though Tottenham won its last match, they have to be eager to show that their bad start was nothing more than a bad start and not a sign of a long season.

Coming off of a tough loss to Stoke City, I like Liverpool to come out strong and aggressive.

The slight edge would seem to be with Liverpool, but I like the home field advantage to give Tottenham a slight advantage.

It will be close, but Tottenham pulls this one out.

Prediction: Tottenham-3, Liverpool-2
