Knowshon Moreno Injury: RB Uncertainty Means Added Pressure on Kyle Orton

Eric BowmanJun 7, 2018

The Denver Broncos may be without starting running back Knowshon Moreno for Week 2 because of a hamstring injury, which only puts more pressure on quarterback Kyle Orton to play better.

In fact, the Broncos have multiple key players that are questionable for their Week 2 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Elvis Dumervil, Champ Bailey and Brandon Lloyd are also banged up, which doesn't help the Broncos' chances of winning their first game.

New head coach John Fox told reporters that injuries are a part of the game and he will adjust accordingly. Per the Denver Post

"

'I think it's all about adjusting,' coach John Fox said Tuesday during a conference call. 'Guys get hurt and you adjust during the season. Guys get dinged during games and you have to adjust. Both teams have to do that. You make do the best you can and go on to the next week.'

"

Luckily, the Bengals aren't a very tough team. The Broncos still have a good chance of winning, even if Moreno or the others are out.

Willis McGahee will be asked to step up big time, but most of the pressure falls on Orton. The Broncos quarterback didn't do so well against Oakland, which resulted in the fans chanting for Tim Tebow.

Orton said he never heard those chants, but everyone knows that's a lie. Sure, he can tune it out and move on with the game, but you know he had to hear the Broncos fans calling for the third-string quarterback.

What makes matters worse is that Broncos fans are planning on purchasing billboards to promote Tebow as the starter.

Fox continues to claim that Orton is the guy, and he has every right to do so. Orton isn't a horrible quarterback, but he has to be better in Week 2.

Moreno didn't practice yesterday, and the chances of him starting this week after he hurt his hamstring are very unlikely. He's had injuries in the past, and the smart thing for the Broncos to do is to make sure he is 100 percent before stepping back on the field.

With the added pressure on Orton, he will be praying for Lloyd to return in good health after a strained groin. Lloyd is his No. 1 target, and without him, Orton may get flustered and make poor decisions.

Expect a slow start from the Broncos on Sunday, but Orton will be better because he has to.
