NFL Week 2 Predictions: 3 Teams That Will Come Back to Reality in Week 2
NFL Week 2 predictions will be a little easier to make after an exciting Week 1, filled with plenty of story lines.
Cam Newton became an Internet sensation with his amazing performance against the Arizona Cardinals. Tom Brady threw for 517 yards, which is the most he has ever thrown for in his career. The Colts are lost without Peyton Manning and the Texans can indeed overcome an Arian Foster injury to win a game.
There are a few teams that are flying high after NFL Week 1 victories that are in for a rude awakening in Week 2.
Here are three teams that will come back to reality in Week 2 of the NFL season.
San Francisco 49ers
1 of 3The 33-17 score from Week 1 is extremely deceiving. At one point in the fourth quarter, Tarvaris Jackson and company had the Seahawks within two points of the 49ers. (Yes, Tarvaris Jackson is a starting quarterback). It wasn't until Ted Ginn’s two miraculous return touchdowns that the 49ers were able to enhance their lead and make their victory appear more remarkable than it really was.
Alex Smith is indeed still under center for the 49ers. This can’t raise much optimism in the team’s prospects for the NFL season. I am still confused why the 49ers organization keeps giving this guy chances. Smith went on to throw for a dismal 124 yards. Andrew Luck anybody?
The 49ers were second to last in the NFL in total offense managing only to scrap up 209 yards of total offense. They were not much better on defense. Any team that allows Tarvaris Jackson to throw two touchdowns against you raises serious questions about a team’s secondary.
It’s going to be a cruel wake up call for the 49ers in Week 2 against Tony Romo and company. If Jackson can throw for two touchdowns against the Niners just imagine what Romo will do to them.
Week 2 Prediction: Cowboys 28, 49ers 9
Jacksonville Jaguars
2 of 3True, the Jaguars were able to completely shut down Chris Johnson and defeat a relatively decent Tennessee Titans team in Week 1. Except, Week 2 will be much different for them. If Jaguar fans are not already missing David Garrard, they will be in Week 2 as they face off against Darrelle Revis and company.
The Jaguars made news when they anointed Luke McCown as the starting quarterback and cut ties with David Garrard. Sure, Garrard is not an outstanding quarterback but he was at least a serviceable starter in the NFL. Luke McCown will undoubtedly struggle against Darrelle Revis and the prominent Jets defense.
McCown threw for a less than impressive 175 yards, he did not throw for a single touchdown and fumbled the ball twice. Is it too early for Blaine Gabbert?
The New York Jets defense will prove to be a much greater challenge in Week 2 and the Jaguars will come to the full realization that you can’t keep sneaking in victories with McCown under center.
Week 2 Prediction: Jets 31, Jaguars 6
Buffalo Bills
3 of 3Are the Bills that good or are the Chiefs just that bad? I would argue that it’s the latter. In Week 1, the Bills obliterated the Chiefs 41-7.
The Chiefs made Ryan Fitzpatrick look like the second coming of Jim Kelly as Fitzpatrick tossed four touchdowns to lead the Bills to an impressive victory against the defending AFC West-champion Chiefs. On the other side of the ball, the Bills defense was able to hold the Chiefs to an abysmal 213 yards of total offense.
In Week 2, the Bills will face a greater task against Darren McFadden and the upstart Oakland Raiders. Darren McFadden leads the NFL in rushing yards with 150 yards after one week and their defense cracked the top 10 in total yards allowed.
The Raiders, fresh off a victory against the Denver Broncos, will show the Bills and the entire NFL that they are no longer the laughing stock of the league. The Chiefs really were that bad and Bills fans will realize that Week 1 was just a dream.
Week 2 Prediction: Raiders 24, Bills, 14
