Randy Moss: 5 Passing Attacks That Should Target Moss' Talents

Eric BallJun 7, 2018

The story isn’t going away.

Randy Moss is still available and sooner or later a team is going to take a chance.

The 34-year-old can still run with the best of them and out-jump the vast majority of corner backs in the NFL. He isn't completely washed up like a running back of his age.

He has the necessary skill-set that would fit a handful of teams perfectly. The more injuries begin to pile up, the better signing Moss sounds.

Here are five teams that need Moss in their lineup to ensure they make it to the postseason and beyond.

It's only a matter of time before somebody gets desperate...

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

1 of 5

When your top two leaders in receiving yards in Week 1 are the tight end and a running back…there is a problem.

Aside from Mike Williams, the Bucs have no real receiving threats to speak of. Preston Parker? Arrelious Benn?

I don’t think so.

The youngest team in the NFL has a big hole at the position, and throwing out a flyer on Moss can’t hurt. QB Josh Freeman likes to take chances deep down the field, and having Moss would free up Williams from double-coverage.

4. St. Louis Rams

2 of 5

The Rams have been lacking a deep threat for a while now, and it’s hampering the progression of QB Sam Bradford. Without the speedster who can spread the field, defenses tend to stay at home against the Rams, which leads to a very congested middle of the field.

With top receiver Danny Amendola out for four to six weeks, why not bring in Moss and give him a shot?

Sure there may be concerns about Moss poisoning a locker room full of young guys, but after last year, you’d have to believe those days are over. Over/under on the amount of times his agent told him this offseason to play the role of a saint with whatever team he lands with?

Say 25?

It’s worth the risk, and the reward could vault the Rams to heights that weren’t previously attainable this season.

3. New England Patriots

3 of 5

We already know this combo has worked in the past.

After watching Chad Ochocinco struggle mightily, maybe Tom Brady urges management to sign Moss?

It’s likely that the Pats cut ties with Moss abruptly in the middle of last year because the coaching staff was sick of dealing with him. But when your best receiver plays in the slot, you need to complement that with a deep threat. Moss knows the offense and knows how to play with Brady.

While it’s unlikely to happen, New England should at least consider it because we all know Moss’ preferred team to play with.

2. Houston Texans

Imagine Moss and Andre Johnson streaking down opposite sidelines in one-on-one coverage.

Aside from their all-pro receiver, the depth at the position isn’t there for Houston. Kevin Curtis already suffered a badly bruised collarbone and will miss at least two weeks.

That means the other top options right now are Jacoby Jones and Bryant Johnson.

Jones mostly plays in the slot and doesn’t provide any sort of deep threat. Johnson was a late addition and is still trying to catch up with the playbook…meaning his contributions will not be coming for a while.

Moss would add some very necessary depth to a team that has big aspirations for the 2011 season.

1. New Orleans Saints

5 of 5

The rumors of Moss meeting with the Saints over the weekend were denied by the team, but whispers still remain.

Why?

Because it’s a great fit.

Marques Colston, the Saints’ leading receiver last season with 1,023 yards, suffered a broken collarbone in Thursday night’s season-opener.

Lance Moore is dealing with a groin injury, and his status for the next few weeks is in question. Receivers and groin issues are never a good thing, and you can bet this problem will not be going away soon.

Moss is looking for a ring, and the Saints provide him with the best opportunity to get there.

Brees is more than capable of getting him the ball, and Moss would fit in perfectly with the aggressive offensive attack.

The Saints need a tall receiver who can spread the field and be a threat around the end zone, and Moss needs one last shot at a ring.

Sounds like the perfect fit to me.
