Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: 3 Desperation Pickups Who Will Help You in Week 2

Tim KeeneyJun 7, 2018

It's Week 2, so hopefully your fantasy football team hasn't suffered too many injuries that you're already scavenging the waiver wire for spot starters. However, just in case you are, here's three guys that should do the job.

Dexter McCluster (4.8 Percent Owned)

The Chiefs will likely be playing from behind against the Detroit Lions, and that means lots of passing formations.

Not only does it mean Thomas Jones will likely be non-existent, it means that McCluster will be in the game about as much as Jamaal Charles.

McCluster is an explosive player. Even in non-blowouts, the Chiefs try to use him in many different ways—in the backfield, out wide or on special teams.

In Week 1, the 23-year-old received four carries for 42 yards, got five targets and caught all of them, and returned four kicks for 92 yards.

He's as likely to break a big touchdown as anyone in the league. With his touches increasing, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets one soon.

Nate Burleson (25.5 Percent Owned)

We might as well stay with the same game.

I mentioned that the Chiefs would be playing from behind. That's because, with Eric Berry injured, the Lions are going to get whatever they want.

Burleson is quietly the No. 2 option on an explosive Detroit offense that likes to throw the ball a lot.

He got five targets last week and caught all of them for 60 yards. In a better matchup this week, I expect him to increase all of those numbers and add a touchdown.

If Calvin Johnson (ankle) doesn't go, Burleson gains even more value. However, he's a nice play no matter what.

Lance Kendricks (8.8 Percent Owned)

A lot of people have jumped ship on this preseason sleeper, but I'm not giving up on Kendricks.

He had pretty much the worst debut that he could have possibly had, catching just one pass for 18 yards and dropping a few others, including a probable touchdown.

Let's just chalk that up to nerves, for now. He still got five targets, should get more with Danny Amendola out and has a good matchup against an injury-riddled Giants team.

I'm giving him one more chance.
