Stromile Swift-Jason Collins Trade: Blog Reactions
Amongst all the hoopla regarding the Pau Gasol - Kwame Brown trade, there is a lesser trade out there—and there is little coverage in the blogosphere right now surrounding it.
Stromile Swift is definitely better known than Jason Collins. But the trade is getting little attention due to the monster Lakers-Grizzlies trade (see earlier posts).
Rotoworld says:
The Nets already have Jamaal Magloire, who they don't use, so we find it hard to believe that Swift will get much playing time in New Jersey.
If he wasn't worth owning in your league prior to this move, nothing should change.
The Nets already have Nenad Krstic coming back, along with youngsters Josh Boone and Sean Williams manning the middle.
As for Collins, he would possibly have some value if he played in a rec league at the 'Y,' but that's not the case. The deal won't be finalized until Monday, meaning Swift won't play for anyone until next week.
TailgateCrashers writes:
The Memphis Grizzlies have agreed to send PF Stromile Swift to the New Jersey Nets for C Jason Collins.
Back to the opinion...I've always like Stro Swift, not the best player but he can get you boards and play a little defense. Maybe playing with Jefferson and Carter will help his offense.
CBSSports.com thinks the Nets got the better of the deal, but further speculates that the Nets could use Swift as trade-bait. Interesting speculation from Tony Mejia at CBSSports:
Swift, the No. 2 pick of the 2000 draft, has long been an intriguing prospect coveted by those who feel he would fare better given a change of scenery. Combined with Williams and Boone, he'd round out an extremely athletic post contingent that's expected to be bolstered by the imminent return of Nenad Krstic (knee).
With a Jason Kidd deal looming by the Feb. 21 trade deadline, the acquisition of Swift would indicate that the Nets are eager to forge ahead with a new blueprint. Another potential twist could see them dangling Swift, who for the reasons stated earlier, might be more attractive to teams willing to facilitate a deal for Kidd by in a multi-team trade.
