Fantasy Football Week 2: Get Your Claims in on These Waiver-Wire Gems
NFL fantasy football championships can be won by claiming that guy who no one liked on draft day but proved in Week 1 that he is in line for a huge fantasy year. You also might be looking to add a guy to replace one of your injured studs.
Either way, here is a list of guys that you should be putting a claim in on in your league this week.
Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton
1 of 10I can admit when I am wrong, and I was wrong about Cam Newton. Last week, I told you to add Arizona's defense because it was going up against the rookie quarterback, and he responded by throwing for over 400 yards against them.
Things get tougher for Newton this week when the Green Bay Packers come to town, but he proved last week that he can play in this league. He is still available in 30 percent of Yahoo! leagues.
St. Louis Rams RB Cadillac Williams
2 of 10Cadillac Williams had a big game last week with 140 total yards after Steven Jackson went down with an injury. Jackson isn't going to play this week, and Cadillac is a must-add against the New York Giants.
Jackson hasn't been able to stay healthy the last couple of years, so Williams could be in line for a couple more spot starts during the year.
New Orleans Saints WR Devery Henderson
3 of 10Marques Colston is going to miss four to six weeks, and Lance Moore still isn't 100 percent. That makes the fact that Devery Henderson is available in 47 percent of Yahoo! leagues crazy. Someone has to see all of those targets from Drew Brees. Henderson will be at the top of that list.
New Orleans Saints WR Robert Meachem
4 of 10Meachem is the other player who will see more targets with the injuries to Colston and Moore. He had a good game in Week 1 with 70 yards and a touchdown. Look for him to have an even bigger week against the Bears this Sunday.
Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis
5 of 10Fred Davis had 105 yards in Week 1 and should be able to put up a similar number in Week 2. There were a lot of questions surrounding the Redskins offense, but most of those were answered last week against a tough New York Giants defense.
This week, Davis faces an Arizona defense that gave up a lot of yards through the air last week.
Baltimore Ravens WR Lee Evans
6 of 10Lee Evans was held without a catch in Week 1, and a lot of people have jumped ship. He is available in 37 percent of Yahoo! leagues.
By Sunday, he will have one more week in the Ravens playbook, and he is facing a weak Titans secondary on the road. He is a good add for this week and the rest of the year.
Houston Texans RB Ben Tate
7 of 10Arian Foster returned to practice on Wednesday, so there is a good chance he will play this week, but Tate is still a good player to add. He will still get some carries as the Texans try to ease Foster back into action, and he proved last week that he can get yards when given the chance.
Buffalo Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick
8 of 10Ryan Fitzpatrick needs to be owned in every league, but he isn't. In fact, he is still available in most leagues.
He has a very favorable matchup this week against the Raiders, who gave up a lot of yards to Kyle Orton on Monday night.
Washington Redskins QB Rex Grossman
9 of 10Rex Grossman isn't the guy you want quarterbacking the team you cheer for because you know he will occasionally throw an interception that just blows you away, but this week, he could help your fantasy football team.
Grossman has good weapons and gets to go against that Cardinals defense that gave up 400 yards to Cam Newton last week.
Green Bay Packers RB James Starks
10 of 10It is hard to believe that James Starks is still available in 38 percent of Yahoo! leagues, but he is. Look for Starks to take more and more carries away from Ryan Grant each week.
He has a good matchup this week against a Panthers defense that gave up 90 yards and touchdown to Beanie Wells last week.
