Fantasy Football Week 2: Best Receivers Still Available

Alex WelchSep 14, 2011

Week one of NFL action brought plenty of ups and downs for fantasy owners.

Whether you had some injuries in the first week of the season or your team just didn't turn out like you planned, you may be searching for some extra help at wide receiver.

Don't fret, there are still some viable options out there that you can pick up. But do it fast, they won't be there for long.

Davone Bess

1 of 4

Currently owned in less than half of fantasy leagues, Davone Bess had a great first game of the season.

He was targeted by Chad Henne seven times and finished the game with five receptions for 92 yards. Of course the Miami Dolphins were behind for the majority of the game, so Henne was forced to try and make something happen. But Bess has proved himself in the past.

He has record 70+ receptions in each of the last two seasons. He only scored five touchdowns in 2010, so he might be a better fit if you're in a PPR league.

Devery Henderson

2 of 4

I know a lot of you have probably been disappointed by Henderson in the past. It has been hard to determine what New Orleans receiver was due for a great week.

In the opening game for 2011 Henderson racked up the points, catching six balls for 100 yards and a score.

Now of course people are going to be leery about adding him, but Lance Moore and Marques Colston are both injured currently. Henderson was tied for first in targets from Drew Brees, and it will only get better with the Saints injury woes.

Henderson is only owned in 36.2 percent of ESPN leagues right now, but that number is sure to skyrocket this week. Get him while you can, but don't be surprised if his stats decline when the team is back to full strength.

Nate Burleson

3 of 4

Fantasy owners everywhere held their breath Sunday when Matthew Stafford limped off the field. A huge sigh of relief was let out when they found out he was just cramping up.

As long as Stafford stays healthy, Nate Burleson is a good option at receiver. He had five catches for 60 yards in week one and has shown great chemistry with Stafford.

Again, he may be better for PPR since Megatron is going to see a lot of touchdown passes thrown his way. But Burleson had six scores last year in just 14 games, and that was with three different quarterbacks leading the team.

By the way, Burleson is only owned by 25.5 percent of owners right now.

Mohamed Massaquoi

4 of 4

Mohamed Massaquoi is has only been grabbed by 2.4 percent of owners right now. That's not a joke, go check your leagues.

Colt McCoy threw his way seven times against the Bengals, but Massaquoi only finished with three receptions for 77 yards.

A lot of people—including myself—believe Greg Little will break out as the Browns go to guy. While that may still happen, Massaquoi appears to already be a favorite in the Cleveland passing game.
