NFL Power Rankings Week 2: Which Teams Are the Experts Overrating?

Matt FaulconerSep 14, 2011

The experts at ESPN missed the mark with their Week 2 power rankings..

They have underrated some teams, such as the Buffalo Bills, and overrated even more teams.

Philadelphia Eagles (No. 3)

Really No. 3?

I should have known they would give the "dream team" so much credit for a victory over the St. Louis Rams.

Sam Bradford was injured in the game, and only threw for 188 yards in the game. A.J. Feeley relieved Bradford and went 2/6 for just 21 yards in relief.

The team also lost Steven Jackson and Danny Amendola in the game. Jackson didn't even receive a carry before being injured.

Sure the win was 31-13 win looked impressive, but the game was just 17-10 at halftime, and Vick didn't exactly impress in the win.

I expect a team to show me something incredible before they are considered a top five team, and Philadelphia didn't do that.

Pittsburgh Steelers (No. 8)

ESPN doesn't want to push the panic button, but I slammed it down the entire game. This team was absolutely dominated by the Baltimore Ravens, and looked absolutely abysmal in this game.

The Steelers lost 35-7 in large part due to seven turnovers. Ben Roethlisberger had five of the seven turnovers.

Big Ben struggled to throw the ball, they struggled running the ball, and they struggled getting any pressure on Joe Flacco.

So what if the Steelers went to the Super Bowl last year. This is a new year, and what I saw on Sunday was a disgraceful performance from a poor team.

Pittsburgh has done nothing to warrant the No. 8 ranking at this point in the season.

Dallas Cowboys (No. 13)

I need someone to scratch my head for me right now. The Cowboys started the season ranked No. 14 in the ESPN rankings, but moved up a spot in a loss?

I don't care how well the team looked in the first three quarters. Tony Romo and the rest of the team choked in the fourth quarter, and that's all I need to know.

I've seen this before from the Cowboys, and they are seemingly overrated every year. Until this team can hold a victory, and Romo stops choking in the fourth quarter, they don't deserve to be ranked in the top 15.
