Pacquiao Can Beat Mayweather at His Own Game: Get Tested for a Different Fight

By now, Floyd Mayweather has most likely had to answer more questions than he would like to about Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather may have fought Victor Ortiz last weekend, but most of the press only wants to know about the fight that isn't happening.

Much like when the fight was first announced, the press overlooked Ortiz and tried to see if Mayweather would fight the Filipino fighter next.

Mayweather has given the same answer time and time again.

It seems like Pacquiao now might submit to the tests. If Pacquiao will submit to the random blood and urine testing, Mayweather will fight him.  

I think there is an underlying factor in this.

I believe that Mayweather does want Pacquiao tested. Not for the good of the sport, but because Mayweather wants to protect his undefeated record and ego.

As for the first part, I agree with Floyd. I wouldn't want to see a fighter who is using performance-enhancing drugs win a fight. Especially on boxing's biggest stage.

Boxing has enough problems. It doesn't need casual fans seeing one more.

The second reason is a little more selfish.  He wants Pacquiao to come to him, and agree to his terms.  He wants Manny Pacquiao to need Floyd Mayweather and the fight that it would bring.  

If Floyd can get Pacman to do that, then he will feel like the best boxer in he world. Pacquiao won't be his equal, he will be his latest challenger.

For a man like Mayweather, who has such a fragile ego built on a number—his perfect record—that perception is everything. If he doesn't have it, he won't feel untouchable. He won't feel perfect.

In a way, Mayweather asking for random drug testing is the perfect smokescreen for this. It has a legitimate concern that connects with a more subtle, petty need.

Which is why Pacquiao should submit to the tests anyway.

For his fight with Marquez.

If he does that and comes out clean, he has already proven that he doesn't need to shy away from any tests.

Then he can simply turn to the press and say, "I've proven I'm clean. I've proven I'll take any test. Now all I need is for Floyd to say that he wants to fight me."

Mayweather will have to come to him. And then things will get interesting.

Mayweather won his fight.  Now Pacquiao should take his test.

And then give one of his own.
