2011 NFL Week One Waiver Wire Hawk

Fantasy GuidelineSep 13, 2011

There weren’t quite as many breakout performances that I’ve come to expect in the opening week of a season, but there were a few of them. Also, there were a few injuries that have led to the need to immediately pick up some players.

Arizona Cardinals – WR Early Doucet (8% owned)

Granted, Doucet got most of his yards off of a fluky 70 yard TD catch. Even still, Kolb gave him a chance to make a big play and he went after it. On top of that, Doucet is the number two receiver behind Larry Fitzgerald. Stick Doucet on your bench and see what he can do in the next couple of weeks.

St. Louis Rams – RB Cadillac Williams (14.3% owned)

Cadillac has been near useless in fantasy circles in recent years. However, once upon a time, Cadillac was considered a beast by many and was lighting up the scoreboards. I’m not saying that’s the case right now, but his future certainly is bright. After a 19 carry, 91 yard performance on a Sunday where Steven Jackson suffered a fairly serious injury, I’m picking him up and running with him. Consider him a flex option.

Cincinnati Bengals – TE Jermaine Gresham (8.4% owned)

Gresham was Andy Dalton’s lifeline on Sunday. I really think that Gresham is the only receiver on the Cincinnati team that retains value every week. Simpson simply isn’t good enough to be consistent with the talent tthat’s throwing to him, Green will have big games, but Gresham will ALWAYS get his catches. Looks like Dalton will be back this week, so get Gresham and start him if you’re weak at the TE position.

Buffalo Bills – TE Scott Chandler (5.3% owned)

Just kidding.

New Orleans Saints – WR Devery Henderson (15.1% owned)

Let me be clear; Devery Henderson is worth a look, don’t start him, but he’s worth a look. Henderson never has been consistent, but it looks like Brees will be throwing the ball as much as ever. If Henderson can beat out Lance Moore, he’ll be a great home run hitter.
