Dear Gator Bowl: Nebraska Is a Much Better Candidate Than Notre Dame
If you want to choose Notre Dame, who is currently beating Syracuse by six points in the fourth quarter, go right ahead.
A limping Notre Dame in the Gator Bowl will only guarantee charges of Notre Dame favoritism, ensure a lack of buzz, and see a blowout of Notre Dame, further justifying the charges of Notre Dame favoritism.
Nebraska, on the other hand, isn’t perfect except that they are a perfect Gator Bowl candidate. All the teams that have beaten the Huskers are quality teams in the Top 25. Granted, they haven’t beaten a Top 25 team, but they did get to seven wins (possibly eight) without beating a I-AA team (sorry, I can’t make the transition to the new terminology).
Also, they’ve beaten teams just outside the Top 25, like Kansas and Western Michigan, and they took No. 2 Texas Tech to OT.
On top of that, they are playing well going into December.
So Gator Bowl, if you find two better teams than Nebraska, we understand.
But please don’t insult your college football fans by choosing Notre Dame over Nebraska.
College football deserves better.
