Fantasy Football 2011: 10 Under-the-Radar Players Ready for Huge Games
Most weeks your fantasy football matchup comes down to one player who you decided to play instead of another. Here is a list of players whose names will not jump off the page but who have favorable matchups this week and will help you win your game.
Here are 10 of those players for Week 2.
Cadillac Williams, RB, St. Louis Rams
1 of 10If Steven Jackson isn't able to go this weekend, and it doesn't appear that he will be able to, Cadillac Williams is a strong play in almost all formats. He is an especially good play in PPR leagues, having caught five passes last week against the Eagles. The Giants defense gave up almost 100 yards from scrimmage to Tim Hightower last week.
Ben Tate, RB, Houston Texans
2 of 10All of the talk this week is going to be about the return of Arian Foster, but Ben Tate is still a solid fantasy option. Foster will play, but he will probably be limited after sitting out so much time with the hamstring injury. Look for Foster and Tate to split carries for the next couple of weeks, maybe even all season.
Keep in mind that the Texans drafted Tate in the second round in 2009. Foster's big season last year came in part because Tate missed the whole season due to injury.
Devery Henderson, WR, New Orleans Saints
3 of 10A lot of people passed on Devery Henderson on draft day because there are so many receivers on the Saints. With Marques Colston out for an extended period of time with a collarbone injury, Henderson moves up in the depth chart. You know the Saints are going to throw the ball a ton, and Henderson is sure to have a lot of those passes coming his direction.
Early Doucet, WR, Arizona Cardinals
4 of 10Doucet and Andre Roberts are in a battle for the No. 2 spot in Arizona, and Doucet stated his case last week with three catches for 105 yards and a touchdown. The Cardinals finally have a guy that can throw the ball around the yard like the want to do, so someone is going to get single coverage opposite Larry Fitzgerald. That looks to be Doucet, and he has a favorable matchup this week against the Redskins.
Buffalo Bills D/ST
5 of 10The Oakland Raiders have to travel across the country to Buffalo after playing the late Monday night game this week. There is sure to be some fatigue there, and the Bills defense showed last week against the Chiefs that it is much improved this season when they shut down a really good Kansas City offense.
Mario Manningham, WR, New York Giants
6 of 10Manningham was quiet in Week 1, recording just 49 yards receiving. He should have a big week against the Rams secondary, and could even be the No. w if Hakeem Nicks's knee doesn't heal up enough for him to be able to play.
Chad Henne, QB, Miami Dolphins
7 of 10Henne turned in what can only be described as a shocking performance in Week 1 against the Patriots, throwing for 416 yards and two touchdowns. His stock is on the rise now after being at an all-time low this offseason when the Dolphins were rumored to be interested inacquiring Kyle Orton from the Broncos. The Dolphins play the Texans in Week 2, and the Texans had a lot of trouble defending the pass last season.
Rex Grossman, QB, Washington Redskins
8 of 10Grossman threw for over 300 yards in Week 1, and he is facing an Arizona Cardinals secondary in Week 2 that just gave up over 400 yards passing to rookie Cam Newton. Grossman will be a hot waiver pick this week because another 300 yards passing week is not out of the question.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, Buffalo Bills
9 of 10Fitzpatrick had a huge game against a Chiefs secondary that is better than the Raiders secondary he will be facing in Week 2. He really came on at the end of last season, and he showed that he has progressed even more in the offseason with four touchdowns in Week 1.
Kyle Orton, QB, Denver Broncos
10 of 10I really like Kyle Orton this week against the Bengals. Their secondary isn't very good, and Orton has something to prove after hearing the fans chant for Tim Tebow on Monday night. The Tebow chant was odd considering Orton threw for 304 yards and a touchdown in that game versus Oakland.
