NFL Picks Week 2: Will Dallas Cowboys Notch First Win Against 49ers?
This Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys have an opportunity to avenge their Week 1 Sunday night loss against the New York Jets when they take on the San Francisco 49ers.
While the Niners are coming off of a 33-17 victory, it was against one of the weakest teams in the league, the Seattle Seahawks. This Sunday will prove far more difficult for the 49ers, and the Cowboys should walk away with their first win of the regular season.
Although San Francisco's win over the Seahawks was certainly decisive, it was not terribly impressive. The Niners had just 209 total yards of offense, 85 from rushing and 124 via the arm of quarterback Alex Smith.

14 of their points came from Tedd Ginn, Jr.'s kick and punt returns for touchdowns. Outside of that, the offense managed just 19 points of their own.
At the same time, their defense allowed 219 total yards of offense from Seattle and 17 points, despite managing one interception and two forced fumbles on Seattle quarterback Tarvaris Jackson.
Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is a far more talented passer than Jackson, and the Dallas offense a far more formidable opponent than Seattle's.
It is unlikely the 49ers defense will see anything close to the success they had in stopping Seattle's offense. Also, it's unlikely the 49ers offense puts up 33 points against the superior Cowboys defense.
What the Cowboys lack in the secondary, they are able to make up for in both stopping the run and putting pressure on the quarterback.
Howbeit, the Jets were able to put up 315 of the team's 360 yards via the passing game, the Cowboys defense were harassing quarterback Mark Sanchez throughout the night.
Most significantly, they held the Jets to just 45 rushing yards, which does not bode well for running back Frank Gore's chances against the Dallas defense this Sunday.
With 390 net yards in Week 1, the Cowboys are clearly a more formidable opponent for San Francisco than the Seahawks before them.
The Niners are going to be overwhelmed by Dallas' offensive attack and defensive pressure, making it fairly easy for the Cowboys to win for the first time in the 2011 season.
