NFL Fantasy Football: 10 Players to Consider Plucking off Waivers for Week 2
Outside of Cleveland and Denver, did anyone know who Peyton Hillis was before Week 1 of the 2010 NFL season?
That is why these first few weeks are crucial to fantasy owners looking to build depth on their teams by picking up mostly undrafted players between Weeks 1-4 off waivers.
Here are 10 players who you should seriously consider picking off of waivers heading into Week 2.
10. RB Deji Karim
1 of 10In the Jaguars Week 1 win, Karim rushed 14 times for 33 yards and caught three passes for another 39 yards, as the Jaguars are making an effort to limit the carries of Maurice Jones-Drew early in the season.
9. RB Earnest Graham
2 of 10Graham rushed 6 times for 13 yards and snagged eight catches for 58 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Lions.
LeGarrete Blount was nowhere to be seen in the second half as the Bucs turned to the passing game down a few scores.
8. WR Early Doucet
3 of 10Doucet broke out in Sunday’s win over the Panthers with 3 catches for 105 yards and a touchdown.
It should be noted that one of Doucet’s receptions was for 70 yards.
However, he could become a solid backup option in most leagues.
7. TE Scott Chandler
4 of 10After being named the Bill’s starting TE just before Week 1, the 6’7" 272-pound Chandler caught five passes for 63 yards and two scores in Buffalo’s big win.
Although he only had one career catch coming into this game, Chandler should be a solid No. 2 TE in most leagues going forward in a Buffalo offense that looks to be breaking out in 2011.
6. WR Jordy Nelson
5 of 10Nelson followed up a superb effort in last year's Super Bowl with another big game against the Saints to kick off the 2011 season.
He had six catches for 77 yards and a touchdown.
Nelson almost scored a second touchdown but was tackled just before entering the end zone.
He is clearly ahead of Packers receivers James Jones and Donald Driver in the GB offensive attack.
5. TE Fred Davis
6 of 10QB Rex Grossman has acknowledged that the Redskins will use quite a bit of two-tight end sets in 2011.
Davis had five grabs for 105 yards in Week 1 and looks to be a solid TE option in most leagues.
4. TE Ed Dickson
7 of 10Dickson was an integral part of the Ravens' offensive attack in their Week 1 victory over the Steelers.
He connected with QB Joe Flacco five times for 59 yards and a score, beating Pittsburgh’s Troy Polamalu for an 18-yard touchdown.
Dickson had another 34-yard catch that was brought back on a holding penalty.
He could become a solid starter down the road.
3. WR Devery Henderson
8 of 10Henderson led the Saints with 100 yards on six grabs in the Week 1 loss to the Packers.
With Lance Moore missing in action, Henderson took advantage with some big receptions from QB Drew Brees.
Depending on Moore’s status going forward, Henderson could be a legitimate No. 3 WR option in most fantasy formats.
2. QB Cam Newton
9 of 10Newton had a record-breaking NFL debut, completing 24 of 37 passes for 422 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in Sunday’s loss to Arizona.
Newton also rushed eight times for 18 yards and a touchdown.
With surprising accuracy and poise in the pocket, Newton looks to have a bright future in the NFL and for fantasy owners.
1. RB Carnell (Cadillac) Williams
10 of 10After Steven Jackson went down with a quad injury in Sunday’s loss to the Eagles, Williams carried the ball 19 times for 91 yards and added six grabs for 49 yards.
After a solid preseason, Cadillac looks to be “the guy” in St. Louis while Steven Jackson is out nursing his quad.
With Jackson likely out for Week 2, Williams could be a great pick-up for fantasy owners needing some RB help.
