Alistair Overeem on Brock Lesnar: "The Fight Won't Go the Distance"

Mike HodgesSep 13, 2011

Alistair Overeem's goal of becoming a UFC champion will begin on December 30, when he meets Brock Lesnar in the main event at UFC 141. Overeem, widely considered to be one of the best heavyweights outside of the UFC, will have a durable opponent to face in Lesnar.

"The Demolition Man" recently spoke to SHOOTMedia about his thoughts and bout with the former UFC heavyweight champion.

"Brock (Lesnar) is a very big guy, a very dangerous guy," Overeem said.

"I'm happy we came to this agreement. I'm excited to fight Brock."

The heavyweight bout will mark the UFC debut of the Dutch kickboxer, who has been an afterthought in the UFC's plans for a few years, following numerous attempts to sign former heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko

Overeem's recent years of competing in organizations such as K-1 and DREAM have allowed him to remain active and evolve as a mixed martial artist. But it is his bout with Lesnar that will be his first true test of competition in recent memory.

Critics are quick to point out the lack of competition Overeem has faced throughout his tenure as a heavyweight fighter, which has always questioned his credibility.

However, a win over Lesnar will erase the doubts of legitimacy and move Overeem one step closer to a title shot. Overeem gave his prediction on his bout with Lesnar and said he sees himself coming out on top.

"This fight is not going to go the distance, that one thing is for certain," he said.

"Someone is going to get beat up. And I'm going to do my best to make sure it's not me."
