Nike Pro Combat Uniforms: LSU Tigers Latest Team to Reveal New Threads in 2011
Chalk up another school to wear new Nike Pro Combat Uniforms this season, as the LSU Tigers will dawn the new threads on October 22 against the Auburn Tigers.
Nike Pro Combat Uniforms have been already been worn this season by the Georgia Bulldogs, Boise State Broncos and Oregon Ducks.
LSU isn't the last team this season to wear the new uniforms as Stanford, Ohio State, Michigan State, Army and Navy all plan to showcase new uniforms this season according to Nike's website.
Some of these new uniforms have been received well, while others were bashed because they went against tradition or they were just plain ugly.
As far as the Tigers new uniforms go, they're really nothing special. It's a simple design that does an OK job featuring the school colors.
It surprised me that Nike featured white as the main color when they could have played around with purple and gold a lot more.
Georgia and Boise wore their Nike Pro Combat Uniforms when they played each other in Week 1, which is why I find it odd that LSU isn't wearing theirs until late October.
Perhaps Nike didn't want to overshadow their favorite team, the Oregon Ducks.
The shoes look like fancy track shoes more so than a pair of football cleats, but overall the uniforms are just OK.
The best part of the new look is something that's been done before, the "Eye of the Tiger" gloves, which was featured in their 2009 new uniforms except it's better this time around.
Nike could have done better, but they could have done a lot worse too.
Perhaps they feared the haters would unleash on them again if they went with all purple or something like that, so they're playing it safe with these mostly white uniforms.
Should LSU fans want to purchase the Nike Pro Combat Uniforms, they will be on sale to the public on October 10.
In the end, as long as the players like their new uniforms then all is well. After all, they're the ones out on the field playing the game, and if they're wearing the school colors then all is well.
