NFL Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Advice: Who To Pick Up in Week 2

Bruno Boys Fantasy FootballJun 7, 2018

Wondering who you should consider picking up on your fantasy football waiver wire in Week 2?  Check out our recommended players that could make an impact for your roster in Week 2 and beyond.

Rex Grossman (Washington Redskins)

Grossman made head coach Mike Shanahan’s decision to start him over John Beck look good for at least one game. In a turn back the clock to his college days, Grossman went 21-for-34 for 305 yards and two touchdowns against the New York Giants on Sunday,

If he can continue to play well he could relegate Beck to holding a clipboard all season long.  Some favorable matchups are coming over the next few weeks, starting with Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals and continuing with the Dallas Cowboys (Week 3) and the St. Louis Rams (Week 4).

There is always the possibility of “Bad Rex” resurfacing and his grip on the starting job loosening, but for now fantasy owners looking to take advantage of a favorable matchup or two early in the season can do worse than adding Grossman.

Consider Adding In: 12-team and 14-team leagues.

James Starks (Green Bay Packers)

Starks picked up where he left off in last season’s playoffs and played a major role in Green Bay’s nail-bitting victory in Week 1. He had 12 carries for 57 yards and a touchdown against the New Orleans Saints. Starks ran so effectively that Packers head coach Mike McCarthy has said he deserves more carries going forward.

Ryan Grant is certain to still be in the mix for playing time, but if Starks continues to outplay him it will be hard to justify Grant seeing a lot of work going forward. Being a prominent piece of a prolific offense is good news for any player’s fantasy value, and that is the circumstance the second-year man out of Buffalo has right now.

Consider Adding In: 12-team and 14-team leagues.

Darren Sproles (New Orleans Saints)

Sproles looked good in the “Reggie Bush role” for the Saints in Week 1, as he returned a punt for a touchdown and had seven receptions for 75 yards and two carries for seven yards.

New Orleans also has Mark Ingram and Pierre Thomas in the backfield mix, so Sproles is likely to be limited predominantly to third down and obvious passing down duty at this point, but the team’s offense relies on contributions from a wide array of players and he seems to have an immediate role.

Plus, New Orleans will be without All-Pro wideout Marques Colston for at least a month, which means that though he is a running back, Sproles will see even more targets in the passing game.

Sproles has more fantasy value in PPR scoring formats; however, owners in deep standard leagues may want to keep an eye on him in case his role increases at any point during the season.

Consider Adding In: All PPR leagues; 12-team and 14-team standard leagues.

Nate Burleson (Detroit Lions)

Burleson had five receptions for 60 yards and added one carry for 20 yards on Sunday as the Lions got past the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  Lions quarterback Matt Stafford topped 300 passing yards in the game, and Burleson looks likely to be a frequent target for him going forward.  The key question will always be—at least until he proves he can stay on the field—Stafford’s health when it comes to forecasting Burleson’s fantasy football impact down the road.

At this point Burleson is worth consideration regardless of your league format, because we know the Lions will put points on the board.

Consider Adding In: 10-team, 12-team and 14-team leagues.
